Biden’s green energy slush fund exposed as payoff machine for Obama cronies
The Biden administration created a massive $20 billion green energy slush fund that was supposed to help disadvantaged communities. Instead, it’s been revealed as nothing more than a piggy bank for well-connected Democrat operatives and Obama administration alumni.
At the center of this scandal is the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, created by Biden’s EPA in 2023 as part of the misleadingly named “Inflation Reduction Act.” This $1 trillion legislation was pushed through Congress as a way to fight inflation, but it’s turned into the biggest green energy boondoggle in American history.
The Coalition for Green Capital, led by former Obama officials, hit the jackpot with a staggering $5 billion grant from this fund. This wasn’t just any environmental group – it was stacked with Obama loyalists positioning themselves for a massive payday.
David Hayes, one of the group’s board members, served as Biden’s Special Assistant for Climate Policy until 2022. In a move that should raise eyebrows across America, Hayes conveniently left the administration to join the Coalition right before it received the $5 billion windfall.
Another board member, Donnel Baird, worked for the Service Employees International Union during Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign before landing a role working with the Obama administration on green energy initiatives. The revolving door between Democrat administrations and green energy paydays couldn’t be more obvious.
But the corruption doesn’t stop there. Baird’s history in the green energy sector demonstrates exactly why Americans should be outraged over these handouts.
After his time with the Obama administration, Baird founded BlocPower in 2014, a company that promised to “decarbonize” buildings by replacing gas-powered heating and appliances. His Obama connections helped him secure a high-profile contract with Ithaca, New York, to convert over 6,000 buildings to electric power.
During his pitch to Ithaca’s City Council in 2021, Baird boldly claimed, “There’s a lot of expensive engineering and financial and workforce development costs. Our job is to remove all of that friction.”
Ithaca became the media darling of the climate movement as the first city in America to pledge 100% electrification of its buildings by 2030.
Baird celebrated prematurely, telling the Washington Post: “To me, the hardest part is done. The hardest part is finding the city with the courage to make the commitment.”
But what happened next reveals the true face of these green energy schemes.
After all the fanfare and media attention, BlocPower managed to convert just 10 buildings before abandoning the project entirely. Ten buildings out of the promised 6,000.
Ithaca residents soon discovered they were being charged astronomical rates for the conversions. Dan Antonioli was quoted $135,000 for a 15-year lease on a heat pump from BlocPower – more than five times what local contractors were charging for similar work.
“I was not at all clear on how they were going to make this affordable,” Antonioli told local media outlet WSKG. “Meaning, how are they going to bring the price down?”
Despite this track record of failure, Baird moved seamlessly to the Coalition for Green Capital, just in time to help direct how that $5 billion in taxpayer money would be spent.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris even praised BlocPower as an “emerging leader” in green energy, despite its obvious failures and predatory pricing.
This is the same playbook we’ve seen time and again: Obama-era officials move into the private sector, secure massive government contracts based on their political connections, fail to deliver on their promises, and then move back into positions where they can direct even more taxpayer money to their friends.
The green energy industry has become a revolving door of failed companies that rake in government subsidies, make grandiose promises, and deliver nothing but higher costs for American consumers.
This scandal reveals the true nature of the “green energy revolution” – it’s not about saving the planet; it’s about creating a massive wealth transfer from hardworking taxpayers to politically connected Democrat operatives.
While American families struggle with inflation and rising energy costs, these Obama cronies are getting rich off taxpayer-funded schemes that accomplish nothing but lining their own pockets.
