John Thune Just Unlocked the Cheat Code on Regime Changing Himself and Doesn’t Even Know It

Trump stood in front of Congress and called out John Thune by name.

That was three weeks ago – and Thune still hasn’t moved.

Now the move Thune made this week didn’t just bury Trump’s number one priority – it handed his enemies exactly the weapon they’ve been waiting for.

How You Hand Your Enemies Everything They Need

Trump called the SAVE America Act his number one priority.

Eighty-five percent of Americans support requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

The bill already passed the House 218-213 in February.

Trump told House Republicans at their retreat Monday exactly what was at stake.

“It will guarantee the midterms,” Trump said. “If you don’t get it, big trouble.”

Thune’s response this week?

“We don’t have the votes either to proceed, get on a talking filibuster, nor to sustain one if we got on it. But that is just a function of math.”

Just a function of math.

The Senate has 53 Republican seats.

Thune won’t force the talking filibuster.

Won’t make Chuck Schumer’s caucus stand on that floor for days and defend their opposition out loud – on camera – before the midterms.

He’s going to schedule a vote next week that he’s already told everyone will fail.

That’s not leadership. That’s a performance.

The Texas Trap He Walked Right Into

Here’s where Thune’s week gets worse.

He’s been lobbying Trump for weeks to endorse Senator John Cornyn in the Texas Senate runoff against Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Trump has been dangling that endorsement like a carrot – because he knows it’s leverage.

Last week Paxton made it explicit. He announced he would consider dropping out of the race if the Senate lifted the filibuster and passed the SAVE Act.

White House officials called it a genius move.

Cornyn panicked.

After decades of defending the legislative filibuster, Cornyn published an op-ed in the New York Post Wednesday announcing he now supports “whatever changes to Senate rules that may prove necessary” to pass the bill.

Twenty-four years in the Senate. One primary challenge. And the filibuster isn’t sacred anymore.

Thune’s response to his own colleague’s reversal?

“Sen. Cornyn is one of 53 Republican senators, and the opposition to nuking the filibuster runs very, very deep in our conference.”

He buried him publicly.

Thune made Cornyn look like a desperate flip-flopper – and made himself look like the man standing between Trump and the one bill every conservative in America wants passed.

That’s not a good place to be with a midterm cycle coming.

What MAGA Just Got Handed

This is the cheat code part.

Before this week, replacing establishment Republicans required years of organizing, expensive primaries, and candidates willing to take the heat.

Thune just made it simple.

He put his face on the bill’s failure.

Trump’s base now has a villain with a name, a title, and a voting record – and they have him on tape saying the president’s number one priority is mathematically impossible.

Senator Ron Johnson already said the quiet part out loud.

“Our next goal ought to be to make sure Democrats get blamed,” Johnson told Fox News Digital, “because they’re the ones truly blocking this.”

That’s the play. Schedule a vote they know fails. Blame Democrats. Go home.

Trump isn’t playing that game.

He’s withheld the most powerful endorsement in Republican politics to force the issue. He’s threatened to sign nothing until the SAVE Act lands on his desk. He called Thune out by name at the State of the Union.

And Thune is still doing the math.

Here’s what the math actually says.

A citizen of Mauritania named Mahady Sacko was just caught voting in every presidential election in Pennsylvania since 2008. The Heritage Foundation’s election fraud database has documented over 100 confirmed cases of noncitizen voting since 2000. Trump’s own 2018 election integrity commission was dismantled by Democratic lawsuits before it finished its work.

The fraud is real. The fix is sitting on Thune’s desk.

The Part That Should Keep Establishment Republicans Up at Night

Thune isn’t alone in this.

Lisa Murkowski opposes the SAVE Act outright. Susan Collins supports the bill but won’t touch the filibuster. Thom Tillis said flatly he won’t nuke it.

Every one of them just handed the MAGA movement a campaign ad.

The argument used to be complicated – procedural rules, vote counts, Senate tradition.

Thune just made it simple: the Republican majority in the Senate refused to protect your vote.

The runoff withdrawal deadline in Texas is March 18.

Trump is watching to see if the SAVE Act moves before that date – and every day Thune stalls, Paxton gets stronger.

The cheat code is already unlocked. Thune just hasn’t checked the score yet.
