Democrats lost 2024 and spent the last year engineering 2028.
Now the same operatives who ran Kamala Harris's post-election legal machine have relaunched – and they're not targeting Congress or the White House.
They're targeting the three offices that decide whether your vote gets counted at all.
The PAC Behind the Plan
A group called Democracy Defenders just re-launched its political action committee with one goal: seize control of the officials who certify, litigate, and administer elections before 2028.
The PAC is spending between $10 and $15 million on races for Attorneys General, Secretaries of State, and state Supreme Courts in presidential battleground states.
Wisconsin. Michigan. Arizona. Nevada. North Carolina.
Ben Wikler – the former Wisconsin Democratic Party chair running point for Democracy Defenders – told ABC News exactly what this is: "The goal right now is to sabotage-proof the electoral system for 2028."
Democrats are calling Republican election integrity efforts "sabotage" – while simultaneously building a $15 million machine to stack the very offices that control how your vote is cast, counted, and certified.
The Man Pulling the Strings
The name you need to know is Norm Eisen.
Eisen is the founder of Democracy Defenders and a veteran Democratic operative who served as co-counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Trump's first impeachment.
He previously ran the State Democracy Defenders PAC – which paid the Elias Law Group $778,000 in 2024.
The Elias Law Group is Marc Elias's firm – the same Marc Elias who led George Soros-funded efforts against state voter ID laws and was sanctioned by a federal appeals court in Texas for violating his "duty of candor" to a court while fighting GOP election integrity measures.
These are not grassroots activists.
They are professional Democratic election lawyers who have spent years fighting voter ID requirements while simultaneously building the infrastructure to control who certifies your vote.
Why These Offices Matter
Republicans have spent years winning presidential races and congressional seats while Democrats quietly cleaned up at the state level – and they're about to do it again.
Here's why that matters more than most conservatives realize.
The Secretary of State writes the rules – which ballots are valid, how mail-in voting works, whether voter rolls get scrubbed before Election Day.
The Attorney General decides which election laws get enforced and which ones get tied up in litigation until after the votes are cast.
The state Supreme Court is the final referee – and unlike federal courts, its rulings on state election law are nearly unreviewable.
Stack all three in five swing states and you don't need to win the argument about election integrity.
You control the outcome before the first vote is cast.
This Is the 2020 Playbook on Steroids
In 2020, Democrats had Marc Elias and his army of attorneys on standby to challenge any result they didn't like in any state that mattered.
It worked.
Now they're going a step further – electing the officials who won't need to be challenged in court because they'll already be writing the rules from inside the building.
Democrats who fight voter ID at every turn are spending $15 million to control the offices that enforce election law.
They don't want requirements that ensure every legitimate vote is counted once.
They want their people deciding which votes count at all.
Republicans would be fools to ignore this.
