New Jersey let thousands of noncitizens onto its voter rolls and called it a software glitch.
Now House Republicans want proof, and Governor Sherrill's office has stonewalled requests for answers.

Sherrill Blamed the Software Company, Then Refused to Hand Over the Names
Six thousand six hundred noncitizens landed on New Jersey's voter rolls between June 2023 and June 2024.
Roughly 400 of them cast actual ballots.
State officials found and fixed the software problem in June 2024, then said nothing to the public for more than two years.
Governor Mikie Sherrill's first move once it finally came out was to point at IDEMIA, the French company that runs the state's motor vehicle registration system.
Classic Trenton move: break it, blame the vendor, hope nobody checks the paperwork.
IDEMIA pointed right back, saying the state overrode its own system to register noncitizens in the first place.
IDEMIA has run this system for New Jersey for more than four decades, and this excuse has never come up before.
When the Justice Department opened its own investigation into the 6,600 registrations, Sherrill's office refused to comply.
Refusing to cooperate with a federal probe into your own state's voter rolls is a strange way to prove there's nothing to hide.
Jordan and Steil Just Set a Deadline in Trenton
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil sent New Jersey's top elections officer a four-page letter this week.
They want every document tied to the state's compliance with federal voter-roll laws, dating back to January 2023.
They want the communications with IDEMIA.
They want to know why New Jersey has refused to run its rolls through the Department of Homeland Security's citizenship-verification database.
That last question is the one Trenton really does not want to answer.
Lt. Governor Dale Caldwell has until 5 p.m. on August 17 to turn it all over.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who represents South Jersey, put it plainly: Trenton owes taxpayers a real accounting, not another excuse.
The clock is running, and stonewalling Congress tends to look a lot worse than a software bug ever did.
This Is Not Just a New Jersey Problem
The Department of Homeland Security estimated that New Jersey, California, Nevada, and Pennsylvania combined have more than 256,000 noncitizens sitting on active voter rolls.
Virginia already ran its own numbers and found 6,531 declared noncitizens removed from its rolls over two years, with no record kept of whether any of them voted.
Judicial Watch called the discovery "disturbing beyond belief."
California hit the same wall back in 2018, when its motor-voter rollout accidentally registered noncitizens through the DMV before officials admitted the system had holes.
Different states, different administrations, same excuse every time: a glitch nobody can quite explain.
That is not a coincidence, that is a design flaw baked into automatic voter registration itself.
The Part Nobody on the Evening News Wants to Touch
Here's what fires me up about this story: the cover-up is bigger than the crime.
That two-year silence was not a technical failure, it was a political decision to stay quiet until it became impossible to hide.
Sherrill wants credit for finally investigating a mess her own predecessor's administration created and then buried.
Meanwhile, ABC, NBC, and CBS spent that same week covering squirrels and airplane mishaps instead of a story that touches the legitimacy of American elections.
If a Republican governor had sat on 6,600 improperly registered voters for two years, it would have been the lead story on every network for a month straight.
Congress now has a deadline on the calendar, and Trenton will have to answer for it whether the cameras show up or not.
