Marines had no tent to screen refugees the day a freed terrorist walked into their crowd.

For five years, the Pentagon made sure those Marines heroism stayed as quiet as possible.
The Moment That Should Have Never Happened at Abbey Gate
Retired Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews lost his arm and his leg in the blast, and he's still the most dangerous man in Washington for Biden's legacy.
He told Fox News this weekend that Marines were never given a real system to screen the crowd at Abbey Gate.
They handed refugees their own food and water because nobody built a system to process them, and Vargas-Andrews summed up the failure in nine words: "There was no tent set up to process refugees."
No tent.
No system.
No plan – while Taliban fighters supposedly guarded the perimeter, and an ISIS-K bomber named Abdul Rahman al-Logari stood somewhere inside a crowd Biden's own military never adequately screened.
Al-Logari wasn't some random extremist who slipped through the cracks.
The Taliban had released him from an Afghan prison days earlier, and U.S. Central Command has confirmed he detonated the bomb that killed 13 Americans and more than 150 Afghans.
Vargas-Andrews said troops had gotten intelligence warning them of a threat beforehand.
Nothing was done to head it off.
He wouldn't pin the blame on one person – he blamed a stack of bad decisions going back through multiple presidencies, agencies, and years of inaction.
Biden's Pentagon Punished the Marines Who Held the Line
Gunnery Sgt. Jonathan Eby took command after his platoon commander and half his platoon were wounded or killed in the blast.
Lance Cpl. Jordan Houston woke up concussed and bleeding from shrapnel, and he hid his own injuries so nobody would pull him off the line.
Cpl. Michael Gretzon kept working crowd control straight through the explosion.
For that, Houston and Eby were handed downgraded Commendation Medals, and Gretzon got an Achievement Medal – paperwork that never came close to matching what they actually did.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stood in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes on the fifth anniversary of the bombing and upgraded all three awards, with Houston and Eby receiving Bronze Stars and Gretzon a Commendation Medal, all with valor devices.
Hegseth said bureaucratic caution, or maybe politics, kept these men from getting recognized properly for half a decade.
Then he told the room flatly: "those days are over."
Bureaucratic caution doesn't explain five years.
Politics does.
What Comes Next for the Cover Up Biden's Team Built
Retired Gen. Kenneth McKenzie told Congress he alone bears military responsibility for what happened at Abbey Gate.
Nobody in the Biden White House ever said the same thing about the decisions that put Marines at that gate with no tent, no system, and no plan.
Hegseth says the broader Afghanistan review is still running, and his office expects a full report by the end of the year.
That report lands in the middle of a fight Biden's team clearly thought was already over.
Every medal upgrade forces the same question back into the room – if these three men deserved Bronze Stars all along, who decided they shouldn't get them, and why.
Nobody has been publicly named as the one who signed off on those original downgrades back in 2021.
Biden's press shop spent years insisting the withdrawal wasn't the catastrophe the whole country watched live on television.
The easiest way to protect that story was simple – make sure the men who survived it never held medals loud enough to drag the cameras back to Kabul.
Then Trump's Pentagon opened the file Biden's team wanted closed, and Pete Hegseth did what should have happened in 2021.
The Marines held the line in 2021.
It just took a new administration, and a promised year-end report, to finally admit it.
