Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got his start as one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling.
The Rock turned that fame into a marketable brand and is now the number one box office draw in Hollywood.
And in Johnson’s last TV show “Young Rock” the premise of one episode of the show was Johnson sitting for an interview while on the campaign trail as a Presidential candidate and looking back at key moments of his life in the world of pro wrestling that shaped him as a man.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Johnson discussed the show and ongoing speculation that he would run for president.
Johnson cited polling data showing Americans support the idea of him running for President and said that was why he was tempted to take the plunge and enter the 2024 race.
“This run for President talk has kind of been in the ether for the past couple of years and it just never stops being surreal. It was incredible. That came from DC and the poll was something like almost 50% of Americans would support me running for president, it was just crazy. So by the way, I thank you,” Johnson stated.
“But it’s like, dude, we’ve talked about this. It’s like not too long ago, you know, years ago, I was wrestling in flea markets for 40 bucks per match, hoping that, hey, I just want a free corndog at the end of the day. And now here we are years later, I’m sitting with you. And this talk has come up and it’s it’s it’s real. And I’m so grateful. So if you are of the almost 50% I thank you – tequila on me, by the way,” Johnson added.
The Rock – who was known as the “people’s champion” during his days as a Wrestlemania headliner – told Fallon what held him back was that his two youngest daughters were only five and seven years old and he didn’t want to be on the road full time during their early years.
“I think down the road for sure. I’ve said this before I’m a proud girl dad, I have a 22-year-old, I have a seven-year-old and I have a five-year-old. So they’re all age ranges and my 22-year-old – I like to say we grew up together,” Johnson continued.
“At that time, I was wrestling full-time, 230 dates, wrestling matches a year so I was always gone. And I know what that’s like to have an occupation that takes me away from being a daddy. And this time around with my seven and my five-year-old. I want to be a daddy and that’s the most important thing to me,” Johnson concluded.
Even so, it’s been well known that Johnson harbors political ambitions and will one day run for President.
And “Young Rock” is set during the 2032 Presidential election and was Johnson’s way of promoting the idea of him running for the White House.
The big question was what party Johnson would run in.
Johnson spoke at the 2000 Republican National Convention, and it was long rumored he was a “closet” Republican.
But once getting to Hollywood, Johnson endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.
Despite his schizophrenic voting history, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the most charismatic performers ever to grace the entertainment industry and could use that to his political advantage.
Many think he could follow past celebrities such as Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sonny Bono into office.
But he must first figure out which party he wants to claim.
