The already tumultuous 2024 election just got rocked by yet another huge political earthquake.
And this one could very well determine who controls Congress after November.
Because a top Democrat elected official was just busted by the DOJ for these shocking criminal charges that could mean the end.
Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams indicted
Federal authorities have indicted New York City Mayor Eric Adams as part of a corruption probe.
And you know it’s bad for him when the Democrat-run DOJ goes after a fellow Democrat official.
“Eric Adams, a retired police captain who was elected as New York City’s 110th mayor nearly three years ago on a promise to rein in crime, has been indicted in a federal corruption investigation, people with knowledge of the matter said,” the New York Times reported.
The FBI had previously forced Mayor Adams to turnover his cell phone and the agents then raided the home of two top aides – former campaign fundraiser Brianna Suggs and international affairs aide Rana Abbasova – as part of a probe into allegations Adams’ 2021 Mayoral campaign solicited illegal foreign contributions from Turkey.
“The coordinated raids were the first public sign of a broad corruption investigation into the mayor’s 2021 campaign. As part of the inquiry, the F.B.I. and federal prosecutors in Manhattan are examining whether the Turkish government conspired with Mr. Adams’s campaign to funnel foreign donations into campaign coffers and whether Mr. Adams pressured Fire Department officials to sign off on a new high-rise Turkish consulate despite safety concerns,” the Times also reported.
Mayor Adams says the quiet part out loud
As soon as news of the indictment broke, Adams released a video professing his innocence.
“My fellow New Yorkers, it is now my belief that the federal government intends to charge me with crimes,” Adams stated. “If so, these charges will be entirely false, based on lies. But, they would not be surprising.”
Adams claimed the charges were politically motivated after he criticized the Biden administration for shipping more than 100,000 illegal aliens into New York City.
“I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you, that I would be a target,” Adams continued. “And, a target I became. For months, leaks and rumors have been aimed at me in an attempt to undermine my credibility and paint me as guilty.”
Adams claimed he was the victim of a witch hunt.
“Just this past week, they searched the home of our new police commissioner, looking for documents from twenty years ago, just one week after he joined my administration,” Adams continued. “Enough. I will fight these injustices with every ounce of my strength and my spirit. If I’m charged, I know I’m innocent.”
The biggest issue for Democrats could be how these charges affect the four competitive races in the House of Representatives.
Democrats need to flip four seats to win back the majority.
The four GOP-held seats in New York provided a most inviting target.
But Adams has made it clear he intends to fight these charges, and that will only serve to keep them in the headlines.
So now the four Democrat challengers in the New York area will have to run with the baggage of the Adams corruption charges weighing them down.
And that does not bode well for the Democrat’s chances to take back control of the U.S. House.
