Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has banked on environmental-related fears to make her career.
But the cornerstone of her plans is disintegrating over some ugly truths surrounding electric vehicles (EVs) and their efficiency.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is convinced life on earth will come to a sudden end within the next 10 years due to climate change.
That’s given rise to perhaps her top political obsession of passing the Green New Deal—a left-wing agenda that involves outlawing the use of fossil fuels under the assumption that activists can save the planet using their so-called “green energy.”
Democrat Party power hinges in a big way on environmental radicals on the fear stirred up inside them over climate change, but the broader public nevertheless seems to have more pressing worries.
So it’s no coincidence the Congresswoman plan is essentially a Trojan Horse to establishing European-style socialism to the U.S. and giving elite globalists unprecedented control over American’s lives.
Ocasio-Cortez’s game plan is to force every driver to use an electric vehicle (EV) supposedly in an effort to eliminate pollution caused by gasoline engines.
The Congresswoman owns a Tesla and is constantly making claims about the environmental benefits of EVs.
But even The Washington Post couldn’t ignore the truth.
The newspaper recently destroyed the Socialists green dreams with a mind-blowing editorial revealing the truth about EVs.
The Post exposed data showing many EVs cause more pollution overall than gasoline-powered vehicles.
Electric trucks and SUVs are extremely heavy, which means it takes more energy to power them than it would to get a full-size gasoline powered vehicle moving.
The massive 9,000 lb. GMC Hummer EV is the most extreme example.
It’s powered by an electric battery that weighs 3,000 lbs.—so big the battery itself it’s almost as heavy as a Honda Civic.
Meanwhile, the electric Ford F-150 Lightning weighs in at 6,000 lbs. making it almost 2,000 lbs. heavier than a similar gasoline powered pickup.
It takes an enormous amount of mostly fossil fuel generated energy to power these massive EVs with 60% of the electricity produced in the U.S. produced by burning fossil fuels and the smoke going straight up a smokestack instead of out a vehicle exhaust pipe.
In fact, research conducted by Quartz exposed the Hummer EV as a pollution machine cranking out more carbon emissions than a BMW 3 sedan or a Toyota RAV4 SUV by about 50 grams per mile, and nearly 70 grams more a compact car like the Toyota Corolla.
Of course, news that The Hummer EV isn’t any better for the environment than a conventional gasoline-powered car isn’t a reality Ocasio-Cortez wants to face.
And she can thank herself and like-minded leftists for pushing automakers to produce a rapidly increasing supply of these vehicles to meet consumer demand and appeal to misguided government regulations.
Considering that eight of the ten best-selling vehicles in America are already trucks and SUVs, it’s easy to guess which EVs will be filling the roads moving forward.
Average citizens simply aren’t going to trade in the American Dream for life in that “Smartcar” that can’t keep up with the flow of traffic and constantly looks like it’s about to get smashed like a soda can.
And increased emissions in the short term only the beginning of EV environmental woes Ocasio-Cortez is going to be forced to confront in the days ahead.
Producing EV batteries is an intensive process requiring vast amounts of cobalt and lithium.
Both materials must be mined using processes that release both sulfur and carbon into the air.
At the other end of the vehicles’ life cycle, the American Automobile Association (AAA) has determined that massive electric batteries rarely end up recycled, often landing in landfills where their toxic chemicals can leak out at leisure.
Scientists have also determined that Cobalt mining can pollute the vicinity around the mine for up to 100 years.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s electric vehicle may not have exhaust pipes, but her misguided supposedly “eco-friendly” scheme is backfiring big time.
