Democrats are trying to use Joe Biden’s economic failures to attempt to sell Americans on buying into an all-electric vehicle (ev) auto market.
Squad member and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other top Democrats incredulously claim that electric vehicles are the answer to drivers’ pain at the gas pumps.
They of course ignore the fact that electric vehicles cost more than their gas-powered equivalents.
And now, a new study found that most electric vehicles actually cost more to charge than their combustible engine equivalents cost to fill up with gas.
Unfortunately for the Democrats and the radical Left, a new study from the Anderson Economic Group (AEG) puts a lie to one of the main claims about electric vehicles the Left tries to sell.
“With electricity prices trending up and gas prices going down, most traditional gas-powered vehicles cost less to drive than their EV counterparts,” AEG’s study noted.
So that means most electric vehicle drivers are going to be paying more to charge their EV batteries whether they’re charging at home or at a commercial charging station.
For example, among compact cars like the Honda Civic and the electric Chevy Volt, a gasoline-powered car costs $9.78 in fuel to travel 100 miles.
A comparable electric car costs almost $3.00 more, $12.55 in electricity if it’s charged at home to travel 100 miles.
Even worse, that number jumps to $15.97 for 100 miles with a commercial charging station.
Mid-size car and truck gasoline-powered vehicles are also less expensive to operate than their electric counterparts.
In fact, the only category where electric vehicles came out even slightly ahead was in the luxury segment, and only if it was charged at home.
And those luxury EVs are pricey to purchase.
The $100,000 plus Tesla Model X costs $13.50 to travel 100 miles while the gasoline-powered BMW 5 Series takes $17.56 worth of gas to travel the same distance.
But at a commercial charging station that number soars to $17.81 per 100 miles for the Tesla.
“These results underline the importance of considering real-world costs before making a buying decision,” the AEG study said. “These include knowing how often you travel away from home, your ability to install and rely upon a home charger, the costs and availability of commercial charging, and any road taxes levied on EV drivers in your state.”
Of course, in addition to paying more money to travel the same distance, electric vehicle buyers are faced with a higher up-front purchase cost.
The average price of an electric vehicle is nearly $66,000 compared to roughly $48,000 for a gasoline-powered one.
So, Democrats are expecting drivers to pay more money for an impractical vehicle that’s more expensive to operate.
But, of course, helping struggling Americans has never been of any concern to these leftists and Democrats.
