Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one of the most radical and controversial Democrats in all of Congress.
She’s known for causing one political headache after another for the Democrats.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have just ruined the Democrats chances of ever winning this one key swing state.
After 62 years of living under Communist oppression, the Cuban people have apparently had enough, as thousands of Cubans are taking to the streets to demand their freedoms.
For the first few days, Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez remained silent about the protesting taking place in Cuba.
But it didn’t take long for her to cause another headache for the Democrats by releasing a statement that turned out to be a political disaster.
Ocasio-Cortez claimed to support the protests and condemned the Cuban government for disappearing protesters and turning off the island’s internet.
“We are seeing Cubans rise up and protest for their rights like never before. We stand in solidarity with them, and we condemn the anti-democratic actions led by President Diaz-Canel,” Ocasio-Cortez began.
However, as usual, Ocasio-Cortez then attempted to blame Donald Trump, not Communism, for the horrendous economic conditions in Cuba, saying it was caused by the embargo Trump reinstated.
“We also must name the U.S. contribution to Cuban suffering: our sixty-year-old embargo,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Ocasio-Cortez also demanded the Biden administration lift the embargo.
“The embargo is absurdly cruel and, like too many other U.S. policies targeting Latin Americans, the cruelty is the point,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “I outright reject the Biden administration’s defense of the embargo. It is never acceptable for us to use cruelty as a point of leverage against everyday people.”
Of course, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t condemn socialism or Marxism once in her original statement. To do so would be admitting that her entire ideology is a failure.
But by blaming Donald Trump’s embargo, Ocasio-Cortez did potentially push Florida further out of reach for Democrats in 2024, especially after Donald Trump won Florida by the largest margin of any candidate since 2004.
Donald Trump’s success in South Florida was due in large part because Cubans living there supported his tough line on the Communist government after Obama appeased Castro for the previous eight years.
Democrats refusing to speak out against socialism and Marxism could put Florida out of reach for them in future elections.
