As one of the biggest companies in the world, Amazon has a vast amount of influence.
At this point, many Americans shop on the company’s vast online marketplace on a regular basis.
But Amazon’s attempt to play Santa is taking on a dirty partisan twist.
With more than 150 million Amazon Prime Subscribers in the United States even a small percentage of sales is a massive amount of money.
With that in mind the company’s PR department came up with a program to “give back” through the Amazon Smile program.
Amazon Smile allows customers to direct a small percentage of the proceeds from every purchase to a charity of their choice.
But that “choice” is hemmed in by a serious leftist agenda.
Jeff Bezos Amazon founder, who also owns the Washington Post, is letting his leftist roots show by intentionally excluding conservative or Christian charities.
Organizations like The Alliance Defending Freedom are nowhere to be found on the platform.
Meanwhile, the radical leftist Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is practically running the show.
“Did you know there’s an easy way to support the SPLC—at no cost to you—while shopping with Amazon?” a SPLC email explains. “Amazon donates a percentage of every purchase made through Smile.Amazon.com. If you plan on shopping with Amazon this holiday season, take advantage of this opportunity to support our work for justice, equity, and human rights every time you make a purchase.”
The SPLC is a radical Left organization that exists mostly to label conservative groups as “racist” and then work to get those groups blacklisted in society.
Tyler O’Neil, author of Making Hate Pay: The Corruption of the Southern Poverty Law Center, says Amazon’s “charitable” efforts are completely partisan.
“Amazon systematically excludes many conservative Christians from the kind of Christmas cheer that comes with knowing that every purchase helps a good cause of their choice,” O’Neil wrote. “Thanks to Amazon’s decision to exclude organizations that the SPLC brands ‘hate groups.’”
The Ruth Institute discovered what it’s like to end up on the wrong side of Amazon’s partnership with the SPLC.
The interfaith coalition worked to help “survivors of the sexual revolution.”
But when they applied to join the Amazon Smile program in 2016 all they got was a nasty rejection letter.
“We rely on the Southern Poverty Law Center to determine which charities are in certain ineligible categories,” they were informed in an email. “You have been excluded from the AmazonSmile program because the Southern Poverty Law Center lists The Ruth Institute in an ineligible category.”
The company’s partnership with the SPLC even came up during a congressional hearing.
At the time Jeff Bezos admitted that relying on SPLC to qualify eligible charities is an “imperfect system.”
You’d better believe no conservative could get away with that kind of imperfect system if the show were on the other foot.
However, years after Bezos admitted the company’s system was flawed, SPLC continues to rule Amazon’s charitable efforts.
“Amazon Smile systematically prevents conservatives and Christians from the same Christmas cheer that the SPLC offers its supporters,” O’Neil explained.
And that’s likely to continue until conservatives throw one massive fit.
