The worst political spying scandal in American history just got even uglier.
Republican senators dropped a bombshell about who helped cover it up.
And the Arctic Frost scandal gets worse with one judge at the center covering for Biden.
Judge Boasberg blocked Republicans from learning they were targets
Senator Ted Cruz revealed that left-wing Judge James Boasberg played a key role in the Biden administration's massive spying operation against conservatives.
According to Cruz's statements at Wednesday's press conference, when Jack Smith's team subpoenaed his phone records from AT&T, Boasberg issued a secret order blocking the company from telling Cruz about it.¹
Cruz said the judge claimed he would "destroy evidence" and harm national security if he found out the government was spying on him.²
That's a complete joke. What evidence was Cruz supposedly going to destroy? Records that AT&T possessed? Was the senator going to hack into the phone company's servers and delete his own account information?
The whole thing makes zero sense. Boasberg's reasoning falls apart the second you think about it for more than five seconds.
Cruz wasn't under criminal investigation. He was a sitting United States Senator doing his job – talking to the President and other Republican colleagues about the 2020 election.
None of that is illegal. None of it threatens national security. And Cruz couldn't have destroyed records he didn't possess in the first place.
Boasberg helped Biden administration target the entire conservative movement
The scope of this scandal is staggering. Republican senators revealed Wednesday that Jack Smith issued 197 subpoenas seeking records on more than 430 Republican individuals and organizations.⁴
The targets weren't just Trump allies in Washington. Smith went after the entire conservative ecosystem – grassroots activists, donors, media outlets, and political organizations across the country.⁵
Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA made the list. So did the Republican National Committee, the Republican Attorneys General Association, and the Conservative Partnership Institute.⁶
Eight Republican senators had their phone records secretly collected – including the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at the time, Lindsey Graham.⁷
One House member was also targeted. The FBI tracked when they made calls, who they called, how long the calls lasted, and where they were located when making those calls.⁸
This went far beyond investigating Trump. The Biden administration was mapping the entire conservative political operation heading into the 2024 election.
And Boasberg helped them hide it from their targets by blocking phone companies from notifying the people being spied on.
The FBI opened Arctic Frost with almost no evidence
Documents show that then-Attorney General Merrick Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and FBI Director Christopher Wray all personally approved opening the Arctic Frost investigation in April 2022.⁹
The justification? Fraudulent elector certificates were allegedly submitted for five battleground states after the 2020 election.¹⁰
But Republicans were openly discussing alternative electors as a legal strategy before the 2020 election even happened. It wasn't some secret conspiracy.
The FBI transformed a political dispute into a criminal investigation, then used it as an excuse to spy on hundreds of Republicans who had nothing to do with alternative electors.
Jack Smith took over the probe in November 2022 – right as Trump announced he was running for president again. FBI agents traveled across the country conducting dozens of interviews. They requested nearly $17,000 just for travel costs in June 2022 alone.¹²
This wasn't a focused criminal investigation. It was a fishing expedition designed to gather intelligence on Trump's political operation as he prepared to challenge Biden in 2024.
Boasberg has a history of targeting Trump
This isn't the first time Boasberg has abused his power to go after the Trump administration.
Earlier this year, Boasberg tried to hold Trump officials in contempt because they didn't magically turn around planes that had already left U.S. airspace and were flying illegal immigrants to El Salvador.¹³
Think about how insane that is. The judge issued an order that was physically impossible to comply with, then threatened to jail people for not doing the impossible.
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals eventually vacated his contempt order on appeal. The appellate court found that Boasberg had threatened contempt over an order he never had the power to enforce in the first place.¹³
But by then, the damage was done. The media had their "Trump defies court orders" headlines. And Boasberg got to play the hero judge standing up to the President.
Now we find out he was also helping the Biden administration spy on Republican senators in secret.
Boasberg is an Obama appointee who has made a career out of attacking Trump and protecting Democrats. He spent years overseeing secret grand jury matters in Jack Smith's cases against Trump.¹⁵
And when Democrats needed a judge to rubber stamp 197 subpoenas targeting the entire conservative movement, Boasberg was right there with his stamp ready.
Cruz is now calling for the House to impeach Boasberg. While the Senate probably wouldn't convict, impeachment hearings would force this judge to publicly answer for his behavior under oath.¹⁶
Let's see how confident Boasberg is in his legal reasoning when he can't hide behind his title and has to defend it in front of the American people.
The Arctic Frost scandal is worse than Watergate. At least Nixon's enemies list had 20 people on it. Biden's had more than 430.¹⁷
And judges like Boasberg helped make it all possible by blocking Republicans from even knowing they were targets until after the 2024 election was over.
