Of course, Democrats are panicking after Joe Biden’s failed policies have caused the cost of everything to skyrocket.
No matter that they’ve earned it, the last thing politicians want to do is pay the price for years of high taxes, out of control spending, and anti-oil industry policies.
Now they’re scrambling to contain the damage before Republicans absolutely clean up November.
As one of the most corrupt states in the nation, Illinois is leading the charge to make others pay for damage caused by Democrats.
The home of “Chicago Style” politics launched Barack Obama’s political career and there’s no way the Democrat’s political machine is willing to allow Joe Biden’s failures to strip it of power.
Now Democrats have found a way to use their control of state government to improve the odds for their party through an insane abuse of power.
In an overnight session, Illinois Democrats pushed through a bill that effectively forces private gas stations of grocery stores to provide them with free advertising.
The crooked politicians merely “suspended” a two-cent increase in the state’s gas tax—and now businesses will be forced to spend time and money putting stickers on pumps informing their customers of their political overlords’ overwhelming generosity.
The stickers will have to read: “As of July 1, 2022, the State of Illinois has suspended the inflation adjustment to the motor fuel tax through December 31, 2022. The price on this pump should reflect the suspension of the tax increase.”
As if that weren’t outrageous enough, the bill also requires grocery stores to spend money printing a similar message on receipts bragging about a grocery tax suspension.
If business owners refuse to do the Democrat’s bidding, they’ll end up paying $500 per day in fines.
This stunt highlights exactly how nervous Democrats are even in deep blue Illinois.
It’s an over-the-top abuse of power forcing business owners to spend their own resources advertising for Democrats.
Of course, the policy itself is almost meaningless.
If Democrats really cared, they would find ways to repeal taxes permanently rather than merely bragging about refraining from doing something awful in the future.
Furthermore, forcing all business owners to support one political party—possibly against their beliefs—flies in the face of what America is supposed to be.
Naturally, Democrats aren’t bothering to let their constituents know that they’ve already doubled the state’s gas tax making it one of the highest rates in the nation.
Considering that they’ve already hiked the tax by 19 cents, a two cent “suspension” is merely a political stunt.
Josh Sharp with the Illinois Fuel and Retail Association isn’t impressed.
“This industry won’t be forced into offering free election year advertising for the Governor,” Sharp said. “Ordering businesses to take part in speech that is compelled by the government under the threat of fines and criminal penalties is unwise and unconstitutional.”
While Democrats are in love with their crooked plan, retailers are gearing up to fight the unconstitutional scheme.
But with a tough election ahead, Democrats are counting on their ability to brazen out the criticism and trick the masses into believing they’re actually trying to make the state better.
