The former President claimed that the government must separate “facts” from “opinions” on social media platforms because he’s worried about the current state of public discourse.

“You and I can have an opinion about this little side table. You know, you might not like the design. You might not like the color or how it’s finished, but we can have that discussion. If I say to you this is a lawnmower, you’ll think I’m crazy,” Obama said during his forum appearance.

Obama argued that Americans are having too many “basic factual arguments” and that this “undermines trust” in society.

But Obama’s real agenda became crystal clear when he started comparing American free speech to Russian propaganda tactics.

Obama channels Vladimir Putin’s playbook

Obama then made a stunning comparison that revealed just how far Left he’s willing to go to silence conservatives.

The former President actually quoted Vladimir Putin and the KGB to justify government censorship of American citizens.

“Vladimir Putin and the KGB had a saying that was then adopted proudly by Steve Bannon, which was if you want propaganda to be effective [then] you don’t have to convince people that what you are saying is true. You just have to flood the zone with so much poop. They use a different word. But you have to flood the zone with so much untruth, constantly, that at some point people don’t believe anything,” Obama stated.

Obama was clearly taking a not-so-subtle shot at Donald Trump and his supporters when he continued his attack on free speech.

“So it doesn’t matter if a candidate running for office just is constantly, just hypothetically, saying untrue things, or if an elected president claims that he won when he lost and that the system was rigged, but then when he wins, then it isn’t rigged, because he won,” Obama added.

The former President called this situation “dangerous” and demanded that journalists and social media companies fall in line with his vision of controlled speech.

Obama wants the government to decide what counts as “facts” versus “opinions” for the American people.

The real target of Obama’s censorship agenda

“That, I think, is one of the big tasks of social media. By the way, it will require some government, I believe, some government regulatory constraints around some of these business models in a way that’s consistent with the First Amendment, but that also says, look, there is a difference between these platforms letting all voices be heard versus a business model that elevates the most hateful voices or the most polarizing voices or the most dangerous, in the sense of inciting violence,” Obama declared.

Obama wants Americans to believe that government censorship can somehow be “consistent with the First Amendment.”

But the First Amendment exists specifically to protect Americans from government officials like Obama who think they should decide what speech is acceptable.

Obama’s plan would give bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. the power to label conservative voices as “hateful,” “polarizing,” or “dangerous” and then silence them.

The former President also called for new forms of journalism that would “reaffirm facts” and separate facts from opinions according to the government’s standards.

“We want diversity of opinion. We don’t want diversity of facts. And how do we train and teach our kids to distinguish between those things?” Obama asked.

But who gets to decide what the “facts” are in Obama’s dystopian vision?
