Chuck Schumer issued Republicans a challenge on abortion that could cost him everything if they accept

Things didn’t look good for Democrats even before the latest round of despicable behavior from left-wing activists over the leaked Supreme Court opinion set to overturn Roe v. Wade.

But they just made it worse if GOP leadership is willing to hit back.

Because Chuck Schumer issued Republicans a challenge on abortion that could cost him everything if they accept.

With Joe Biden in the White House, life in the United States has become vastly more difficult for average families.

Reminders are everywhere from the insane prices at gas pumps to the empty baby formula shelves in grocery stores.

Polls show Democrats are likely to be routed in November.

Those who want their jobs should be walking on eggshells.

Most have been responding to the writing on the wall by trying to appear more moderate.

But then news hit of the leaked Supreme Court opinion that’s set to overturn Roe v. Wade and every leftist politician in Washington, D.C. immediately forgot they were trying to cast a more moderate image.

The Left has always relied on a core base of pro-abortion nut jobs to drive voter turn out.

But total Democrat rule in Washington D.C. for the last 16 months has been such a disaster many in the Party may be realizing the Supreme Court overturning Roe is not going to drive the masses of voters to turn out and vote Democrat that they assumed.

And after rushing to wind up the Democrat Party’s rabid abortion radicals, the Party elites are caught between the terrible look it is for the Party this fall and pleasing their Abortion Lobby pals.

The solution Party leaders have come to seems to be splitting – figuratively in this case – the baby.

They’ve been deliberately softening their language, issuing talking points to activists to say “healthcare” instead of abortion, insisting protesters stop using coat hangers as their rallying symbol, and generally trying to lower voter expectations about the issue saving their political hides in November.

Unfortunately for them, before they could fully look at the issue with sober eyes as to their election strategy for November, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer heeded the Abortion Lobby’s demands to hold a vote on the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” – legislation that would make abortion legal across the nation for all nine-months of pregnancy.

In doing so, he handed the Republican Party a target list of 49 Senators who’ve unequivocally voted for abortion-on-demand.

Then they walked straight into what looks like a political trap — except that they created it themselves.

The bill was so atrocious that even pro-abortion RINO Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska realized it was political suicide to vote for such legislation in the current political environment.

“Contrary to claims from Senate Democratic leaders that their bill would not infringe upon the religious rights of individuals and religious institutions, the WHPA explicitly invalidates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in connection with abortion and supersedes other longstanding, bipartisan conscience laws, including provisions in the Affordable Care Act, that protect health care providers who choose not to offer abortion services for moral or religious reasons,” Collins wrote in a statement.

Whenever RINOs are in trouble, moderate Democrats have to watch their step just as carefully.

In some parts of the country, a good share of Democrats aren’t radical woke leftists.

Instead, they’re small-town folk — often from the Bible Belt — whose great grandpa once had a falling out with a Republican and so voting blue is a family tradition.

If Republicans play their cards well, they’ll be able to gain traction by pointing out Democrats are so extreme they’re willing to legalize wholesale murder of full-term babies that will have moderate Democrats ready to join Team Red.

Usually, Party leaders know enough to protect those vulnerable members of their party when it comes to controversial social issues and not force them to vote on record unless a measure is sure to pass.

Instead, Chuck Schumer led his whole flock of sheep out to go on the record voting for the one bill sure to horrify a huge number of their constituents.

Democrats for Life spokeswoman Jess Meeth fired off a statement to Fox News Digital giving Democrats a taste of what’s to come as they deal with backlash in their home states.

“We are disappointed in Sen. Bob Casey and his claims to be a pro-life Democrat but turning his back on women and their pre-born children by supporting WHPA,” Meeth said.

Meeth is a Pennsylvania Democrat who ran 16 years ago as a “pro-life” and “pro-guns” candidate.

You can imagine how much fun his next political opponent will have with that.

Incredibly, Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia was the only Democrat who seems to remember on a regular basis that he needs to go home sooner or later to face his constituents.

Despite all of that, if history is any guide, the GOP consultant class in Washington, D.C. that’s full of establishment RINOs like the kind that work for the Lincoln Project is notoriously weak-kneed when it comes to campaigning on pro-Life issue.

But if Republicans pick up the weapon Democrats have handed them, it could change everything in America.
