Democrats love to lecture everyone about defending democracy.
They never shut up about listening to the will of the people.
But Chuck Schumer just told 83% of Americans to pound sand over voter ID.
Schumer Blocks What 8 in 10 Americans Want
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that "every single Senate Democrat" will block the SAVE Act requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.
He called the legislation "Jim Crow 2.0" and vowed it's "dead on arrival" if it reaches the Senate.
Schumer claimed the bill would "disenfranchise millions of Americans."
Wait — defending election integrity disenfranchises voters?
That's a neat trick considering 83% of Americans want voter ID according to Pew Research Center polling.
And it's not just Republicans backing it.
A stunning 95% of GOP voters support requiring identification at the ballot box.
But even 71% of Democrats want it.
Among racial demographics that Schumer claims to protect, the numbers demolish his argument.
About 85% of white voters support voter ID.
So do 82% of Latino voters.
And 76% of black voters want identification required for voting.
Schumer isn't defending minority voters — he's ignoring three-quarters of them.
The New York Senator is dusting off his favorite attack line from 2021.
Back then, he screamed "Jim Crow" about Georgia's election reforms.
The 2022 results made him look like a fool — turnout exploded, especially among minorities.
A University of Georgia poll found exactly zero black respondents reported problems voting.
Major League Baseball pulled its All-Star Game from Atlanta based on these same false claims.
The propaganda collapsed when faced with actual data.
America Stands Alone in Refusing Basic Election Security
Here's what Democrats won't tell you about international voter ID standards.
All 47 countries in Europe require government-issued photo identification to vote — except parts of the United Kingdom, and Britain is moving to join the rest.
Norway mandates passport, driver's license, or bank card with photo.
Germany requires state-issued voter ID cards.
Switzerland, France, Israel, Mexico, and Iceland all require voter ID.
Some countries go even further — Colombia and Mexico require biometric identification to cast a ballot.
The Czech Republic and Russia require passports or military IDs because driver's licenses aren't considered secure enough.
About 74% of European countries entirely ban absentee voting for citizens living domestically.
Another 21% require voters to collect absentee ballots in person and present photo ID.
The Crime Prevention Research Center database on global voting rules shows election integrity measures became standard worldwide after countries experienced fraud under looser systems.
Many adopted stricter rules specifically because they learned the hard way that fraud explodes without proper safeguards.
Northern Ireland dealt with "widespread and systemic" voter fraud on all sides during sectarian conflicts.
Investigators found medical cards being used as voter ID were "easily forged or applied for fraudulently."
Dead people were voting. Nonexistent people were voting.
Both Labour and Conservative governments agreed something had to change.
By 2002, Britain rolled out voter ID cards that actually worked — cards you couldn't fake in your basement.
Britain's 2023 voter ID law faced identical "Jim Crow" attacks from the political left.
Critics screamed it would suppress minority turnout.
Instead, confidence in election integrity increased.
Support for voter ID jumped eight points after implementation.
Once voters see ID requirements in action, they don't want to go back.
The University of Manchester study that critics cite found only 1.3% of electors were turned away or didn't show up because of ID requirements.
But that figure included people who chose not to vote as a protest against the law and those who wouldn't have voted anyway.
Free voter IDs were available to everyone who requested one.
The system worked exactly as designed — securing elections while maintaining access.
Democrats Block What Democrats Want
Schumer's position puts him at odds with his own voters.
More than 7 in 10 Democrats support voter ID requirements.
Senate Democrats represent states where huge majorities of constituents want exactly what the SAVE Act provides.
Schumer claimed on MSNBC's Morning Joe that requiring proof of citizenship is "vicious and nasty."
He insisted "you will not get a single Democratic vote in the Senate."
Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith called out the ridiculous hyperbole on Bill Maher's podcast.
Smith warned Democrats against "Trump-ish" exaggeration, noting "we're living in the year 2026."
Maher pointed out Biden used the exact same "Jim Crow" phrase about Georgia voting, then polling showed "even the Black folks said we had no problem voting."
Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead told Fox News that "Chuck Schumer sounds like a broken record."
When Georgia passed voting reforms in 2021, Schumer labeled it "Jim Crow" even though the state saw explosive turnout in 2022.
Pennsylvania found 11,198 noncitizens registered to vote despite it being illegal.
Oregon discovered more than 300 noncitizens erroneously registered, with nine having voted in past elections.
Alabama found 186 noncitizens registered to vote, 25 of whom allegedly cast ballots illegally.
But according to Schumer, preventing this is somehow voter suppression.
The South Carolina voter ID law from 1950 started the ball rolling in America.
Indiana enacted the first strict photo ID law in 2005, upheld by the Supreme Court in 2008.
Following the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision, multiple states implemented voter ID requirements that had been blocked.
Voter ID is mainstream policy in 36 states and standard practice across the developed world.
Schumer's blocking 47 Senate Democrats from voting for what their own constituents overwhelmingly support.
He's willing to risk government shutdown to prevent Americans from having the same election security as France, Germany, and Mexico.
Trump won a mandate to secure elections.
Voters made it crystal clear they want proof of citizenship requirements.
But Schumer thinks he knows better than 83% of the country — including three-quarters of the minority voters he claims to protect.
