Democrats are grappling with a massive threat as far-Left factions wrest control of their party.
Now, an ugly political problem that could steamroll the Democrat Party has grown too big for them to ignore.
By giving more and more of the reins of the Party over to the far-Left, the Democrat Party has pushed out a massive number of loyal supporters—many of whom considered themselves left of center for decades.
Despite building their brand on rooting for the underdog, many Americans believe Democrats have shown their true colors in recent years – outing themselves when they started to put implementation of the radical agenda favored by left-wing coastal elites, ahead of rank-and-file Party supporters.
That means instead of focusing on meat and potato issues like the skyrocketing prices of food and fuel, Democrats have circled around implementing policies to advance socialism, Critical Race Theory, unhinged gender ideologies and environmental dogma.
That shift of focus has backfired one big time with an increasingly important voting bloc according to former Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH).
Ryan, a 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate who lost his House seat in order to mount a losing bid for US Senate in 2022, recently appeared on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher revealing what’s happening inside the Democrat Party.
Ryan, who in the past represented a heavily-Democrat, blue collar District while in Congress, explained that everything is falling down around his party.
He said that’s because Democrats’ brand has become “toxic” in large chunks of the country.
“The Democratic brand, in so many areas of the country, is toxic,” Ryan told Maher.
He should know coming from Ohio which was one of the biggest battleground states in the country, before Democrats alienated blue collar voters during Donald Trump’s administration.
“There is a woman who ran for Supreme Court in Ohio, sitting Supreme Court justice,” Ryan added, providing an example. “Two years ago, she ran and won, got on the court, you didn’t have to put a D or R by your name. There’s a county in southern Ohio, she got 51%.”
“Two years later, Republicans changed the law, you had to put a D or R behind your name,” he added. “Same woman, same court, same message, same candidate lost, and in that county got 31% instead of the 51% she got when it was just, do I like that candidate?”
Ryan experienced that ire firsthand last year when he lost 80 of Ohio’s 88 counties in the Ohio Senate race.
Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) trounced him in rural and blue-collar areas.
Ryan says a big part of the problem is that left-wing radicals “take the bait” on divisive social issues, including Critical Race Theory.
He continued by explaining that it’s a mistake for Democrats to focus on a radical agenda when parents want their kids to learn “reading, writing, arithmetic.”
In Ryan’s opinion, those misplaced priorities caused Democrats to ignore real issues that matter to voters including the economy and jobs generated by it.
That’s something that could have cost Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) his job in the 2022 Midterms, with just a slight shift of votes in Arizona.
Maher, a talk show host and long-time leftist comedian, agreed that Republicans are onto something with their criticism of the left-wing indoctrination pushed on kids in government schools.
He pointed out that burning taxpayers by teaching that America is “evil,” is going too far.
Ryan’s loss in the 2022 Ohio Senate race is a cautionary tale Democrats would do well to learn from.
In 2024 Democrats face an uphill battle in three states increasingly dominated by Republicans: Ohio, Montana, and West Virginia.
In order to maintain control of the Senate after the 2024 election, the Democrat Party will have to do some fancy footwork to reverse the damage done by the growing toxicity of its brand in rural America that Ryan spoke about.
