CNN’s ratings continue to tank as viewers are taking their business elsewhere.
The powers that be seem to be trying everything to keep the dying Democrat-controlled news outlet afloat.
But reports just surfaced that CNN has been sold in what many believe is a last-ditch attempt to save the network.
A mere three years after jumping headfirst into the media business, telecom giant AT&T looks to be going in a new direction by spinning off the Warner Media assets it acquired in 2018.
Time Warner – which owns CNN – merged with AT&T back in 2018, catapulting the cellular company into the world of live sports, streaming content, movies, and TV shows.
But it looks like AT&T has decided to call it quits and is spinning off Warner Media to Discovery, which will create a new entity that Discovery CEO David Zaslav will run.
What this major move means for CNN still remains unanswered.
According to reports, the future of CNN and its CEO Jeff Zucker remains unclear.
New leadership at the network could significantly impact the current political media landscape, but only if this latest move results in a surge of viewers for CNN.
Most in the industry assume Zucker will remain in some leadership position given his close relationship with Discovery CEO David Zaslav, but only time will tell.
In a recent interview, Zaslav told reporters, “We think together the combination makes us the best media company in the world.”
One thing Zaslav and Zucker might want to consider is letting their staff in on the impending changes.
It appears a number of CNN hosts were shocked by the move.
John Berman, co-host of CNN’s New Day, stated he found this a “stunning retreat” by AT&T.
“Well, this is a stunning retreat from AT&T. AT&T got in big to the entertainment business and to direct TV in Time Warner and now getting out,” Berman stated to CNN correspondent Brian Stelter.
This most recent move only solidifies the fact that CNN is going under.
AT&T doesn’t want to be a part of a sinking ship, and that is precisely what the Liberal News Network has become.
CNN’s continued attempts to recreate their golden years during the Trump administration are failing at every turn.
While some believe this recent merger could help the ailing network, it’s hard to believe anything can bring them back from the brink of total collapse.
