CNN has become more irrelevant and insolvent on a daily basis.
Even under new ownership the faux news network is failing as fast as ever.
CNN just jerked its biggest primetime host off the air in a humiliating last-ditch effort to save the company.
New CNN President Chris Licht claimed he was going to move the network away from partisan lobbying back toward practicing actual journalism.
Then he proved he didn’t mean it by replacing disgraced former host Chris Cuomo with left-wing mouthpiece Jake Tapper.
By putting Tapper into Cuomo’s old prime slot, he was counting on Tapper who pretends to be an “objective journalist,” to be the face of the network’s most important hour of the day on cable news.
But as soon as Tapper entered his new prestigious 9:00 P.M. slot, his fierce partisan roots started showing big time.
Tapper started droning on about how crime is a “fake issue” invented by Republicans to scare Americans into voting for conservatives.
As expected, that kind of pure leftist propaganda caused Tapper’s show to bomb with it pulling in less than 25% of the ratings Sean Hannity gets for Fox News during the same time slot.
“Tapper’s program, simply titled ‘CNN Tonight with Jake Tapper,’ averaged only 636,000 total viewers from its Oct. 11 debut through Nov. 1, getting trounced by cable news competitors in the process,” Fox News reported. “Fox News’ “Hannity” averaged 2.8 million viewers during the same period while MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight” managed an average audience of 1.4 million.”
Mere weeks after putting Tapper in charge of its most prized time slot, CNN admitted defeat.
In a humiliating reversal, Tapper got kicked out of his new prestigious primetime slot and returned to hosting his regular afternoon show.
Rather than admit that nobody is literally better than the best talent CNN can muster, the network tried to spin their failed Tapper experiment as a temporary fix.
“As part of a special lineup, Jake agreed to anchor the 9pm hour through the midterm elections,” CNN wrote in a statement to Fox News. “At the completion of that schedule, he’ll be returning to his award-winning program ‘The Lead.’ We will announce post-election plans for that time slot in the coming days.”
Media insiders were stunned that Tapper’s career boost fizzled out almost instantly.
“Jake’s total failure at 9 p.m. is truly shocking,” a former CNN producer confided.
Another insider expressed shock that Tapper’s show took a hard-left turn, calling Tapper’s failed primetime show “Rachel Maddow-lite.”
“I can’t believe he went so far to the left in his show,” the source said. “He went so far to the left, it went against the exact narrative the new ownership claims to be going for.”
The new WarnerBros. Discovery board tasked Chris Licht with turning CNN into a true news network rather than a press arm for the Democrats.
But when he put a rabid left-wing partisan like Jake Tapper in the number one spot, Licht proved he’d rather talk about change than accomplish anything substantive.
