When oil prices dipped to a historic low in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, Trump ordered his administration to fill up the United States’ strategic reserve.
Now Biden has decided to fritter it away by releasing a million barrels of oil every day over the next six months.
CNN Newsroom host Erica Hill asked Bob McNally, president of Rapidan Energy if the extra oil will have an impact on prices at the gas pump.
“Unfortunately, probably not in a good way,” he said. “Oil prices are probably headed higher because, while the U.S. consumes about 20 million barrels a day, the right way to think about the United States adding one million barrels a day from the strategic stocks is to compare it to the amount of oil that we could lose from Russia due to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.”
McNally also pointed out that the price of oil isn’t based primarily on domestic supply and demand.
Instead, the international price of crude oil is dictating the price fluctuation affecting fuel.
“So, unfortunately, as long as Russia poses a problem to the global oil market, a disruption risk, gasoline prices are probably headed higher,” McNally said. “We all pay the same price, and that’s determined in the global crude oil market pool.”
In other words, Joe Biden is continuing to do what he does best – blow through taxpayer resources regardless of how much it’s going to hurt the nation in the long run.
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a complex of four sites with enormous underground storage caverns inside salt domes along the gulf coast in Texas and Louisiana.
As of February 23, the reserve contained 579.2 million barrels of oil.
That means Joe Biden is planning to blow through a full 31% of the entire strategic reserve—and announce it publicly—even as the threat from Russia and China grows exponentially.
