Democrats turn to sexagenarian as the model for the future of the party

If a Democrat wants to gain popularity from their base, all they need to do is attack Donald Trump.

One 62-year-old Congressman set a high bar for that.

And now Democrats are turning to this sexagenarian as the model for the future of the party.

Democrats are looking to rebuild their bench

The Democrat Party is still reeling from the shellacking it took on Election Night.

Kamala Harris didn’t just lose her White House bid, she lost in spectacular fashion.

Donald Trump swept the Vice President in all seven swing states and was the first Republican in two decades to win the popular vote.

And he did it while being outspent by about a three-to-one margin.

Trump even gained ground with virtually every demographic group and in every state except Washington.

But it wasn’t just Kamala who lost on November 5.

Republicans held on to control of the U.S. House of Representatives and won a majority in the U.S. Senate by flipping four seats.

And with all the losses, Democrats – for the first time in a long time – started looking for new leaders.

But the party has little to no bench.

This is evident by multiple polls showing damaged-goods candidate Kamala Harris as a strong front-runner to be Democrat nominee once again in 2028.

And it now appears the party is looking to rebuild a “youth movement” of sorts.

All the “fresh” Democrat faces

But this ain’t no JFK and Jackie-style Camelot.

Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) looks to be the face of the new – marginally younger – wave of Democrats.

Congressman Raskin is a spring chicken-like 62-years-old.

But in fairness, compared to other Democrat leaders, 62 is fairly young.

For example, President Joe Biden is 82, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is 84, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is 74, and socialist icon Senator Bernie Sander (I-VT) is 83.

And now Raskin and this “younger” generation of Democrat politicians is pushing out the old guard.

Jamie Raskin to lock horns with Jim Jordan

Raskin – who was one of the seven Democrats Nancy Pelosi’s bogus January 6th Select Committee, as well as the lead Democrat on the House Oversight Committee – decided he wants to be the top Democrat dog on the House Judiciary Committee.

The only problem for Raskin was, Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) held the seat.

But Raskin was able to rally support from his colleagues and forced the 77-year-old Nadler out.

Nadler resigned and threw his support behind Raskin.

“As our country faces the return of Donald Trump, and the renewed threats to our democracy and our way of life that he represents,” Nadler wrote in his letter announcing he was dropping his bid. “I am very confident that Jamie would ably lead the Judiciary Committee as we confront this growing danger.”

Whether or not Nadler’s words held sway with his Democrat colleagues, on Wednesday, Raskin was nevertheless elected unanimously by the House Democrat Caucus to become the new Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee.

Raskin wasn’t the only “young” Democrat looking to replace veterans as the lead Democrat in committees.

Don’t forget these names

One of the biggest names in the Democrat Party, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is only 35.

But Ocasio-Cortez won’t be ascending to a coveted committee leadership position anytime soon.

With Raskin about to counter Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) as the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, his spot on the House Oversight Committee was up for grabs.

Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez wanted the post, but failed to edge out 74-year-old Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA), after Nancy Pelosi reportedly ran a shadow whip operation on Connolly’s behalf to fend her off.

Meanwhile, over on the Natural Resources Committee, ranking Democrat Representative Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) stepped down from the chair position at the age of 76.

The leading candidates to replace him were 60-year-old Jared Huffman (D-CA) and 45-year-old Representative Melanie Stansbury (D-NM).

Grijalva endorsed the younger Stansbury to replace him but ultimately another sexagenarian prevailed as Huffman secured the spot.

Then there’s the House Committee on Agriculture – one spot where Democrats actually elected the younger contender for the position in selecting 52-year-old Representative Angie Craig (D-MN) for the top spot.

Senior Ag Committee Democrat Representative David Scott (D-GA) and his 79-year-old bad back dropped out of the race, making it a contest between Representatives Jim Costa (D-CA), 72 and Craig.

As the Democrat Party looks to adjust and rebound into the future, its leadership got a bit younger.

“Craig and Huffman, like Raskin, pushed out or defeated septuagenarian ranking members who colleagues worried would not be able to put up a strong resistance to Trump,” AXIOS reported.

But it is not much, despite left-wing press attempts to spin it otherwise, they’ve mostly turned to sexagenarians.
