CNN’s news anchors are becoming more actor than anchor these days.
From Brian Stelter’s antics to Jim Acosta’s love of himself, there is no shortage of entertainment on the channel.
And now, Don Lemon’s latest stunt could put him in the running for an Oscar.
Dereck Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd, is currently on trial. CNN has been covering it every minute of every hour since it started.
During a broadcast of his show CNN Tonight Don Lemon broke down in tears as left-wing extremist professor Cornel West told viewers that black men needed to start intervening when they saw police abusing and mistreating other black men.
“I’m telling you, brother, if the police can’t do it, we have to do it ourselves. I’ll tell you this, too. Let me add one thing, brother. I thought, brother George. I thought about my brother, and I thought about my father, and I thought about my grandfather. I’m not going to stand there for no 9 minutes and 29 seconds and watch somebody murder my father. No, no! Uh-uh, no, no, no.
Martin Luther King Jr. talked about pacifism. I believe in nonviolence, but I’m not going to watch that kind of murder. I love my brother Charles McMillian. That is why he was crying. That’s what his tears were about. He felt helpless. We are not going to do that. Some of us black folk, some of us black men, we are not going to stand there. We are going to have to intervene in some way. You aren’t going to kill us like that, and we remain spectators,” West declared.
After West’s monologue about black men stepping in to help where the police can’t, in his opinion, handle the situation, he went on to quote a section from Lemon’s book.
In the book, This is the Fire, Lemon wrote about silence not being an option in the face of racism and that black men needed to start stepping up and exercising self-defense.
The camera cut to Lemon holding his face in his hands, sobbing after West was finished quoting the book.
This drama could not have been scripted anymore perfectly.
It is moments like these that have viewers changing the channel in search of real news and reporting.
It is no wonder CNN’s ratings are tanking when all they’re worried about is playing the racism card by having their so-called anchors weep through broadcasts.
Simply put, even left-leaning Americans see stunts like these and respond with a massive eye roll.
