Donald Trump doesn’t hold back when it comes to his enemies.
The former FBI Director crossed a dangerous line with a recent social media post.
And Donald Trump dropped this bombshell response about James Comey’s “86 47” threat.
Trump calls out Comey’s threatening social media post
Former FBI Director James Comey found himself in hot water after posting a cryptic message on social media that many interpreted as threatening toward President-elect Donald Trump.
Comey, who was fired by Trump during his first term, posted “86 47” on Instagram in a now-deleted post.Â

The term “86” is widely understood in restaurant lingo to mean removing or getting rid of something – or someone.
The number 47 is seen as a reference to Trump being the 47th President of the United States.
President Trump addressed this alarming message during a recent interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, calling it out for what he believes it truly meant.
“He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant,” Trump told Baier. “If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear.”
Trump’s blunt assessment left no room for interpretation – he views Comey’s post as nothing short of a call for violence against him.
“He wasn’t very competent, but he was competent enough to know what that meant. And he did it for a reason,” Trump continued.
The President highlighted the stark contrast between his administration’s achievements and what he sees as Comey’s dangerous rhetoric.
“He was hit so hard because people like me. They like what’s happening with our country. Our country’s become respected again and all this, and he’s calling for the assassination of the president,” Trump stated.
Comey walks back controversial post
After significant backlash, Comey attempted to walk back his comments, claiming he doesn’t advocate for violence. When Baier mentioned this during the interview, Trump dismissed it outright.
“But look, he’s a very big…” Trump began before Baier interrupted to ask what action Trump wanted to see taken against the former FBI Director.
Trump refrained from specifying exactly what consequences Comey should face.
However, he made it clear that he views Comey’s post as extremely serious, especially given the former FBI Director’s history.
“I will say this: I think it’s a terrible thing. And when you add his history to that – if he had a clean history… he doesn’t. He’s a dirty cop. He’s a dirty cop,” Trump emphasized.

Trump suggested that Comey’s background makes the situation more severe and potentially less deserving of leniency.
“If he had a clean history, I could understand if there was a leniency, but I’m gonna let them make that decision,” Trump concluded.
A history of targeting Trump
The tension between Trump and Comey stretches back to Trump’s first administration when he fired Comey as FBI Director in May 2017.Â
The firing came amid the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Comey subsequently testified before Congress about his interactions with Trump and later wrote a book titled “A Higher Loyalty” that was highly critical of the former President.
Critics of Comey argue that his recent social media post is just the latest in a pattern of anti-Trump behavior, but this time, potentially crossing into dangerous territory by using language that could be interpreted as inciting violence.
Supporters of the President have called for investigations into whether Comey’s post violated any laws regarding threats against public officials.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the rhetoric directed at Trump, who has already survived two assassination attempts during his 2024 campaign.
