In order to secure a second term Donald Trump needs to distance himself from establishment figures who ultimately turned on him and his supporters in the aftermath of his first term.
And there’s one name that’s consistently popular among Trump’s loyal base.
Even as rumors have been swirling with candidates like RINO former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley considered a possibility for the Republican ticket, conservatives who have been consistently denigrated by the political establishment are fed up with politics as usual triumphing over Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda.
During a recent interview on Newsmax, Donald Trump Jr. acknowledged that sentiment when he described a “dream ticket” for his dad’s next run for office.
Trump Jr. told Wake Up America host Rob Finnerty Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host, “would certainly be a contender” for the Republicans’ Vice Presidential candidate.
Finnerty dug into that, asking Trump Jr. if his father is “serious about Tucker Carlson” joining his campaign.
“I mean they’re very friendly, I think they agree on virtually all of these things,” Trump Jr. responded.
“They certainly agree on stopping the never-ending wars and so, I would love to see that happen,” Trump Jr. noted. “That would certainly be a contender.”
In the past Trump Jr. has tossed out names including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), and former Trump Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
“You need someone who’s in alignment, as well as, like, aggressive. You actually need a fighter,” the former president’s son explained. “The Republicans in Washington, D.C., are weak. You can have the House, the Senate, and they’ll still roll over.”
Trump Jr. was quick to shoot down another Republican ticket pick that’s been floated in the Washington, D.C. rumor mill.
He told Finnerty that he would fight with everything he has to ensure RINO former South Carolina Governor Nicki Haley never becomes his father’s running mate.
“I would do whatever I could to make sure it wasn’t Nikki Haley!” Trump Jr. declared. “That’s my opinion, I don’t make these decisions.”
This isn’t the first time Carlson’s name has been brought up.
Last November Donald Trump himself said he is open to considering Carlson as a running mate during an interview on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.
“I like Tucker a lot; I guess I would,” Trump responded to a question about possibly choosing Carlson. “I think I’d say I would because he’s got great common sense.”
Axios has also reported that former First Lady Melania Trump is in favor of her husband choosing Carlson as his running mate.
She believes Carlson would bring a new dynamic to the campaign and has even suggested she would be willing to make more campaign appearances if he is on the ticket.
