Donald Trump believes in the old adage, if you want something done right – you have to do it yourself.
With that in mind, he has launched phase two of his plan to make America great again.
And his path to become the GOP nominee in 2024 may have just gotten a little bit easier.
Exactly one week after the Republican Party disappointed on the 2022 Midterm election stage, former President Donald Trump announced he would once again run for the White House.
So far, Trump is the only officially declared 2024 candidate for the GOP nomination.
However, there is no shortage of rumored interest swirling around the Beltway.
Former Vice President Mike Pence, Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, disgraced ex-Congresswoman Liz Cheney, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz are all names that have been swirling around as possible 2024 GOP presidential hopefuls.
There are also three names from the Sunshine State that have been thrown around in Republican nomination conversations.
The first among them is Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis – who has made a name for himself with bold conservative-populist policies and a willingness to take on the corporate-controlled media and woke corporations head-on.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s name has also made it on to various, “Top 10 Contender” lists.
And so has Florida’s other U.S. Senator, Rick Scott.
Sen. Scott has quite the resume, as the former Governor of Florida as well as being the former head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Scott made waves late last year when he challenged Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for the position of Senate GOP leader.
Only ten GOP Senators supported Scott’s challenge, but it marked the first time any Republican had opposed McConnell for leadership.
Scott’s willingness to challenge the status quo and apparent want to climb the political ladder made him a heavily rumored candidate to run for President in 2024.
However, Scott just put all those rumors to bed.
NBC News is reporting Scott has chosen to instead announce he’s running for re-election to the U.S. Senate in the next election cycle.
“I’m running for the U.S. Senate,” Scott said. “Let’s start fighting over ideas. If Democrats have a better way of getting people back to work, it doesn’t seem to be working. Labor participation rates are down. We’re not creating full-time jobs. Look at the job market. All we’re doing for last few months is adding part-time jobs. That’s not a great economy. Inflation: 40-year high. If we did what I put in my plan, then it would be better for Americans, all Americans.”
Scott has a history of winning very tight races.
In 2010, he won a Florida gubernatorial contest by just over a single-point against Democrat Alex Sink.
He won re-election in 2014 over Charlie Crist, once again, by a single-point.
Then in 2018 Scott knocked-off incumbent Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson, this time by just 0.2% – or about 10,000 votes.
However, as evidenced in the 2022 Midterms, the Sunshine State has moved significantly to the right since Scott’s last time facing voters, which should make him a favorite to win a second-term in the Upper Chamber.
That won’t stop Democrats from going after Scott in 2024.
The Senate map is not friendly to the blue-team in the next cycle, and even with Florida’s rightward movement, it may represent Democrat’s best and perhaps only Senate pick-up opportunity.
