Donald Trump is expected to announce his Presidential campaign sometime after the Midterm elections.
But the former President wanted to go ahead and made one thing clear in the Republican Party.
And Donald Trump just put his potential GOP challengers on notice with a bold promise about 2024.
During a recent speech, former Vice President Mike Pence refused to commit to supporting Donald Trump in 2024 because he is leaning toward another candidate.
“Well, there might be somebody else I’d prefer more,” Pence declared. “What I can tell you is, I have every confidence that the Republican Party is going to sort out leadership. All my focus has been on the Midterm elections and it will stay that way for the next 20 days.”
The other candidate Pence had in mind is clearly himself.
Even if Donald Trump runs for a second term in 2024, rumors are circulating that former Trump cabinet members Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley are planning on running.
During a recent interview on Brian Kilmeade’s radio show, Trump discussed the potential of facing former members of his administration in a 2024 Presidential Primary battle.
“Mr. President, when will you decide if you’re going to run in 2024? And how would you handle running against people in your cabinet like [Mike] Pompeo, Nikki Haley, Mike Pence?” Kilmeade asked Trump.
Trump told Kilmeade that GOP voters would view Pence, Pompeo, and Haley as disloyal if they ran against him in 2024.
But if they decided to run, Trump said he would crush them by as much as 50 points.
“Well, many of them have said they would never run if I run,” Trump responded. “So, we’ll see whether or not that turns out to be true. I think it’d be very disloyal if they did [run], but that’s okay too. And the polls have me leading by 40, 50 points.”
Polls do show Trump as the frontrunner, with Pence, Pompeo, and Haley all registering low single digits.
Since Haley, Pence, and Pompeo are viewed by voters as the establishment, very few consider them to be legitimate contenders in 2024.
But they’ve all convinced themselves otherwise in their own minds, believing they can lead the GOP into the future.
Of course, if they do run against Trump in 2024, reality will crush those dreams in embarrassing fashion.
