President Donald Trump has been fighting against so-called “sanctuary” jurisdictions since his first term in office.

The latest example of this insanity comes from Prince George’s County, Maryland, where local officials released an illegal immigrant who was charged with murder and assault despite an active ICE detainer request.
The release happened because of the county’s dangerous sanctuary policies that prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
Thankfully, ICE agents were able to track down and arrest the Guatemalan national before he could potentially harm anyone else.

In 2019, Alsobrooks openly bragged about “not participating in immigration enforcement” and later claimed that enforcing immigration laws “should not be the responsibility of local governments.”
Acting Prince George’s County Executive Tara Jackson doubled down on this dangerous stance, stating: “The Prince George’s County Police Department does not engage in federal immigration enforcement actions… Our focus is on ensuring public safety and building trust with all members of our community, regardless of their immigration status.”
This twisted logic suggests that protecting illegal immigrants from deportation somehow makes communities safer – even when those same policies enable accused killers to walk free.
Democrats push for even more extreme sanctuary policies
Rather than reversing course after this latest debacle, Maryland Democrats are actually working to strengthen sanctuary policies throughout the state.
Maryland State Delegate Nicole Williams, who represents Prince George’s County, introduced a bill that would ban all local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE.
Williams defended this radical proposal by claiming: “People would not feel safe in terms of reporting actual crime that is taking place within their communities.”
State Senator Alonzo Washington echoed this sentiment, saying local law enforcement should not be enforcing immigration laws and that “We’re going to build a better relationship with our immigrant community so we know exactly who they are and we can protect them.”
These lawmakers are more concerned with protecting illegal aliens than with the safety of American citizens.
Former Councilmember Deni Taveras, now serving in the Maryland House of Delegates, previously expressed concern about “an incredible amount of fear” regarding immigration enforcement – but showed no similar concern for citizens who might fear accused murderers being released into their neighborhoods.
The Trump administration has consistently advocated for ending sanctuary policies across the nation.
