When it comes to politics, Donald Trump has often leaned into his own relatives.
He understands that you cannot trust anyone more than your own family.
And Donald Trump was devastated after receiving this sad news from his daughter-in-law Lara.
Donald Trump creates U.S. Senate vacancy in Florida
Donald Trump recruited U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to serve as his Secretary of State in his upcoming administration.
With his confirmation essentially guaranteed, this leaves a valuable seat in the Senate open.
With the election for that position not taking place until 2026, that leaves Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the important job of appointing a replacement to see through the rest of the term.
It was no secret that Donald Trump was gunning for his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to be the Republican Governor’s first choice.
During a November interview with Maria Bartiromo at Fox News, Lara Trump indicated that she was interested in serving out the remainder of Rubio’s term in the U.S. Senate.
“I know my name has been thrown out there a lot, and I would say that my experience at the RNC has really shown me, you know, serving the American people,” shared Lara Trump.
“And if I were tapped for this, serving my home state of Florida, it’s a great honor and a great responsibility, obviously, but I would love to be able to go forward and do more,” added Trump’s daughter-in-law.
Many saw the opportunity to select Lara Trump as a chance for DeSantis to rebuild his relationship with incoming President Donald Trump following his challenge to Donald Trump for the GOP nomination for President.
But DeSantis wanted to make sure that he appeared as an independent supporter of Trump.
The Governor of the Sunshine State argued that he, also, felt that Lara Trump had not been a resident of Florida for long enough to have earned the appointment.
He did feel, however, that it was important to select someone that had experience in elected office, and that would be a reliable advocate for a conservative future.
As a result, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Congressman Cory Mills have risen to the top of his shortlist.
Lara Trump removes her name from consideration
Seeing this strategy come together, Lara Trump honorably stepped aside from consideration for the Senate seat, to make it clear that there was no ill intent behind DeSantis’ decision.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” recently announced Lara Trump.
“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” she added.
But Lara made it clear that she was not down and out from a future in conservative politics, teasing a big announcement she plans to make following New Years.
“I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough,” continued Lara. “I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned.”
“I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” she concluded.
