The GOP Presidential nomination contest is really only a two-man race at this point between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Ron DeSantis’ team is trying to project the image of a front runner.
Both candidates are looking for any way to gain an advantage and Ron DeSantis had a big surprise for Trump by hinting at this top Republican woman as his running mate.
You could see it all over his Twitter announcement with Elon Musk.
And now the DeSantis team is floating the idea that the Florida Governor already decided upon his running mate.
And this leak from the campaign also served the dual purpose of advancing the DeSantis campaign’s key message that a vast majority of GOP voters still want to keep Trump’s America First agenda in place but also want to move on from Donald Trump as the GOP standard bearer.
Sources close to the DeSantis campaign, who wished to remain anonymous, said DeSantis is getting set to fire a shot across Donald Trump’s bow with a huge announcement of his VP pick.
And these sources say DeSantis will name newly elected Arkansas Governor and former Trump Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders as his 2024 running mate.
The DeSantis campaign source told RadarOnline.com, “He really only has one strong choice: Sarah. He is desperate to lock up his running mate before he makes his formal announcement. He would announce his VP candidate very soon afterward.”
Of course, DeSantis made his announcement without naming Huckabee Sanders but that doesn’t mean DeSantis has changed his mind on her.
The DeSantis campaign strongly believes naming Huckabee Sanders, currently the youngest Governor in the nation, would amplify the message that the newest candidate for President wants to send about America turning the page on the Trump era.
And of course, he thinks it would be a strong signal about ending the Biden Presidency.
“He thinks it will be a one-two punch and Republicans will be hard-pressed to look past a united front, especially if it is him and Sarah,” the source said.
Despite Donald Trump’s early endorsement of Huckabee Sanders, which helped clear the field in Arkansas for her race, she has still not endorsed Trump’s 2024 Presidential campaign.
“I love the President, have a great relationship with him. I know our country would be infinitely better off if he was in office right now instead of Joe Biden but right now my focus isn’t 2024,” Huckabee Sanders recently stated.
But the DeSantis campaign source claimed Huckabee Sanders believes Ron DeSantis is the future of the GOP, but with Trump still dominating the Primary polls she believes her best move for now is to stay on the sidelines.
“Part of her wants to embrace the new GOP and she believes DeSantis is the man,” the source claimed. “But she is worried about Trump’s influence and the results of recent polls only shows that. The Governor is keeping her powder dry.”
Sara Huckabee Sanders endorsing DeSantis could set off a political earthquake.
If any current Governor would be expected to support Trump it would be Sanders, who faithfully served Donald Trump and never once spoke out against him after she left the administration.
DeSantis would naturally covet her endorsement for obvious reasons.
And his team may already be dangling the possibility of a Vice President slot to win her over.
