Despite numerous reports and rumors claiming all sorts of things as to why Fox News axed Tucker Carlson, everyone is still searching for the whole truth of the matter.
When the shocking news that Fox News has “parted ways” – their words – with the most-watched primetime cable news anchor in America, Tucker Carlson, broke across the nation, former President Donald Trump just happened to be doing a live interview on Newsmax.
Newsmax’ Greg Kelly took the opportunity to get Trump’s real time reaction to the news, and the former President simply reacted with the same shock as the rest of the nation.
“I’m shocked,” Trump said. “I’m surprised, [Carlson is] a very good person, a very good man and very talented, as you know, and he had very high ratings. We’re just learning about it now almost as we speak.”
“I don’t know if it was voluntary or it was somebody fired,” he added. “But I think Tucker’s been terrific, he’s been, especially over the last year or so, he’s been terrific to me.”
Obviously, at the time of the interview, nothing was known about what may have prompted the network’s baffling decision.
Trump’s first guess at what may have caused the split was that Carlson may have wanted more freedom from Fox News executives’ oversight, though.
“Maybe he left because he wasn’t being given his free rein,” Trump continued. “He wants free rein, maybe, but I was surprised by it.”
But since that interview, while Fox News’ statement claimed the sides’ mutually agreed to part ways, reports have indicated that Carlson was shocked by the decision.
Other reports have given countless reasons why Fox News may have been compelled to move on from Carlson – the reasons have ranged from the hosts’ alleged “foul language” and a discrimination lawsuit filed by a recently fired employee, to claims his text messages unearthed in the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against the network in which he bad-mouthed Fox executives and former President Donald Trump were to blame.
Despite Carlson texting that he’s fed up with Trump’s antics, and saying he believes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a far better “executive,” some Trump supporters have even claimed Fox Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch personally fired the host because he hates Trump and wants DeSantis to win.
But possibly the most realistic potential reason for Carlson’s ouster from Fox News is his continued investigation into January 6, and the potential role federal informants may have played in the events of that day.
Carlson obviously shook the ruling class elites to their core when he released the previously unseen security footage recorded at the Capitol on January 6, causing the so-called “mainstream” narrative around that day to fall apart.
Nevertheless, there’s no denying the massive impact Carlson’s departure from Fox News will have on the political landscape, especially as the 2024 election approaches.
No cable news host active today is anywhere close to as influential as Carlson – as one Republican strategist told The Hill, “Tucker can popularize an issue that nobody is even thinking about overnight… influence-wise, I don’t think there’s anyone like him.”
And even though he may have had some not so positive things to say about Trump as he vented over the former President’s antics in text messages, no cable news talking head with anywhere close to his influence stood up for Trump more than Carlson.
Regardless of the fact that he seemed set to simply stay out of the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary publicly and allow voters to decide for themselves between Trump and DeSantis, the former President having one less defender in a media that’s hellbent on destroying him won’t help matters.
But unless part of the stipulation for Fox News to pay the host the full remainder of his contract is some sort of non-compete clause that keeps him off-air, it’s difficult to see Carlson sitting out long.
He’ll certainly have plenty of offers, and with his reach and influence, could easily decide to go the independent route and start his own show on its own network – after all, he did co-found The Daily Caller in 2010.
Wherever Tucker Carlson lands, it’s clear that he’s going to continue to be a thorn in the side of ruling class elites everywhere.
