First, they went after gasoline engines.
Then, natural gas stoves were in their crosshairs.
Now, the Biden regime is bound and determined to make Americans miserable year-round—and your AC unit may well end up being the next creature comfort to die a political death.
It’s all part of an endless—and futile—effort to appease climate extremists on the left.
And their latest strategy is sure to hit homeowners where it hurts by taking a wad of cash out of their wallets.
The EPA is essentially weaponizing the supply chain against homeowners who have old air conditioning units in need of repair.
In the name of stopping climate change, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is limiting the supply of refrigerants.
Ironically, while Democrats claim to be all for the underdog, the new regulations have basically turned staying cool in the summer into a rich man’s game.
Quotas are pushing the price of refrigerant higher meaning it will now cost consumers about three times as much to recharge air conditioning units.
That’s adding $100 to $500 to repair bills.
And those numbers are only going to get worse.
The EPA rules are designed to progressively tighten in coming years.
And if you need a new unit, the news is even worse.
The government’s so-called “efficiency standards” are making systems outrageously expensive for consumers.
The administration is so obsessed with its battle against personal comfort that it’s even cracking down on window AC units.
“Is there a war on appliances? Or is it a war on you?” Law professor Glenn Reynolds wrote in an opinion piece for the New York Post. “I’d tell you to keep your cool, but that’s going to be hard when Team Biden takes away your air conditioner.”
Texas Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson also took a swing at the Biden Regime’s latest overreach effort.
“They’re after our stoves, our washing machines, and now, our air conditioners. Funny you never see them coming after private jets,” he tweeted. “The only goal of the ‘green’ agenda is making you SUFFER! That’s it!”
Presidential hopeful and current California Governor Gavin Newsom illustrated that point beautifully last September.
Only days after signing a law banning gasoline powered vehicles from being purchased in the state after 2035, Newsom made an appeal to Californians to turn off their air conditioners due to electrical grid strain during a heat wave.
Ironically, Newsom was wearing a sweater in what was apparently a nicely-cooled studio.
