After Fox News drifted to the Left during the 2020 election, the network experienced a major falloff in viewership.
Since then, Fox News executives have made several changes at the network to try to bring back lost viewers.
And Fox News just made one major new hire that could change the network entirely.
Last week, Fox News Channel announced that the network purchased the conservative-leaning sports website Outkick.com.
Started by conservative commentator Clay Travis in 2011, Outkick.com is now one of the leading voices in sports media criticizing all the woke politics and Black Lives Matter protests that creeped into the world of sports in recent years.
And just last year, Travis’ website exploded to new heights after he became one of the only sports commentators willing to reject the hysteria surrounding the coronavirus.
In fact, Travis was virtually the only major sports commentator who campaigned for pro and college sports to reject the doomsaying of corporate-controlled media outlets and resume playing sports because the pandemic did not pose a threat to athletes.
Travis became so popular that he even interviewed Donald Trump twice on his radio show, which reaches 10 million viewers, during the 2020 campaign.
And now that the site has been acquired by Fox News Channel, Travis only expects it to grow even more in the next year.
“Outkick has grown out of my passion for producing bold, well-informed, and entertaining content about sports, current events and, more recently, sports wagering. With the power of Fox behind us, we look forward to maintaining Outkick’s unwavering commitment to that mission, as well as further accelerating the growth of our audience, and continued leadership in the sports wagering affiliate category,” Travis stated.
And it’s a win/win situation for the executives at Fox News Channel, who are hopeful that bringing a popular sports and pop culture commentator into the tent will draw in new viewers by expanding the network’s reach to offer content and analysis on a wider variety of subjects than just politics.
“Clay and his team have quickly made Outkick a content powerhouse with a very large, loyal and engaged audience. We expect the synergies presented across FOX’s existing portfolio of assets will turbocharge this exciting business,” Fox Corp. Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Lachlan Murdoch declared.
