Greg Gutfeld Just Used Mamdani’s Own Words to Destroy the Left’s Biggest Voter ID Lie

For years, Democrats have told you that requiring ID to vote is racist – a modern-day Jim Crow designed to strip minorities of their voice in American democracy.

Chuck Schumer called it "Jim Crow 2.0." Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called it voter suppression. The Democratic Socialists of America – the same organization that elected New York City's radical new mayor – put it in writing: voter ID laws "have a disproportionate impact on the most marginalized communities."

Then came the blizzard. And a snow shovel. And the most spectacular act of self-inflicted hypocrisy in recent American political history.

NYC Mayor Mamdani Demands More ID to Shovel Snow Than to Vote

As a massive two-foot storm slammed New York City last weekend, Mayor Zohran Mamdani – America's first openly socialist big-city mayor – put out a call for emergency snow shovelers to help dig out the five boroughs.

The pay was decent. The catch was something nobody on the left saw coming.

Mamdani required every applicant to bring two original forms of ID, copies of those documents, two passport-style photos, and a Social Security card – to shovel snow.

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld spotted the contradiction immediately and went straight for the jugular. "So you don't need an ID to vote in New York," Gutfeld said on air, "but you need a stack of papers to move frozen dog pee."

He wasn't finished. "Paperwork from a Democratic socialist," Gutfeld continued – describing it as coming from "the same crowd who would call you a Gestapo agent if you thought voter ID was a good thing."

The mockery came from every direction. Fox News comedian Jimmy Failla dubbed it "Jim SNOW 2.0." Sen. Ron Johnson called on Senate Democrats to pass the SAVE America Act by unanimous consent, given that their own socialist mayor had just endorsed the underlying logic. House Republicans piled on: "In Zohran Mamdani's socialist utopia, it takes 2 forms of ID to SHOVEL SNOW, but no ID to vote."

Mamdani's Voter ID Hypocrisy Exposes the Real Reason Democrats Oppose the SAVE Act

When reporters cornered Mamdani on the contradiction, he did what no conservative would have ever expected him to do.

He cited federal law.

"Here in New York City, we follow the law," Mamdani told CNN, "and it's federal law to require certain forms of identification in order for someone to actually be paid for this kind of a job."

The same mayor who runs a sanctuary city. The same mayor whose DSA organization actively fights the SAVE Act – a bill simply requiring proof of citizenship to vote. That mayor stood at a podium and invoked federal law to justify demanding more documentation to shovel a sidewalk than New Yorkers need to choose who runs their government.

Gutfeld nailed it: "But now he cares about law. Funny – when millions crossed into the country illegally, federal law didn't matter."

The entire voter ID argument collapsed in a single press conference. If working-class New Yorkers can gather two forms of ID, passport photos, and a Social Security card to earn a few bucks clearing snow – they can produce one ID to vote. Mamdani just proved it himself.

Why Democrats Oppose Voter ID Laws While Demanding Them Everywhere Else

The Democrat Party's voter ID position was never about protecting minorities. It was about protecting Democrats.

Eighty-five percent of Americans – including majorities of Black and Hispanic voters – support requiring ID to vote. It is among the least controversial positions in all of American public life. Every developed nation on earth requires it. Yet for three decades, the American left has waged war against the concept, wrapping naked political self-interest in the language of civil rights.

Mamdani's snow shovel fiasco ripped that mask off in real time. The shoveler sign-up sheets were empty at multiple New York City garages – nobody showed up – so the city got both the exposure and the incompetence in a single weekend.

Gutfeld closed with the line that summed up the Mamdani era perfectly: "The real disaster isn't the blizzard at all, but the guy asking you to clean it up."
