Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are moving full speed ahead with Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial in the Senate.
The first three days were full of surprises.
And now House Democrat impeachment managers just convinced another Republican Senator to switch their vote on impeachment.
Even some of Donald Trump’s strongest supporters in the media, like Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, are disappointed with the performance of Trump’s lawyers on the first day of the trial.
But it’s not just Hannity and Ingraham who think Trump’s legal team dropped the ball.
Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy was so disappointed in their performance that he switched his vote to allow the trial to proceed after previously voting with Rand Paul to dismiss it as outright unconstitutional.
According to Cassidy, he switched his vote because the Democrat impeachment managers were much more “focused” and “organized” than Trump’s lawyers.
“The House managers were focused. They were organized. They relied upon precedent, the Constitution, and legal scholars. They made a compelling argument. President Trump’s team was disorganized. They did everything they could but to talk about the question at hand,” Cassidy stated. “And when they talked about it, they kind of glided over, almost as if they were embarrassed of their arguments.”
“If I’m an impartial juror and one side is doing a great job and the other job is doing a terrible job on the issue at hand? As an impartial juror, I’m going to vote for the side that did the good job,” Cassidy added.
Even though Cassidy switched his vote, the Democrats still need at least 16 other Republicans to change their mind for Trump to be convicted in the Senate.
However, Cassidy switching his vote will allow the Fake News Media to further attack and discredit Trump and his legal team during the impeachment trial.
