Donald Trump is essentially the de facto leader of the Republican Party.
Establishment Republicans want nothing to do with Trump.
And jaws dropped when a Never-Trump critic made this outrageous claim about the 2020 election.
The Democrats and Never-Trump Republicans are getting more and more concerned about Trump running again in 2024.
That’s why they’re still trying to discredit Donald Trump and his support among Republican voters with smears about January 6.
Over the weekend, Meghan McCain went on Meet the Press to help in the attacks.
Meghan McCain, one of the most well-known Never-Trumpers in the media, has been at war with Donald Trump ever since he criticized her late father back in 2016.
McCain told NBC during the interview that Donald Trump’s claims about the 2020 election are “insane” and “conspiratorial.”
“I don’t even know how to talk about this because it is conspiratorial, you know, insanity from the bowels of the internet. There’s a segment of the Republican Party that believes it. I know people who think the election was stolen. It’s the big lie that people are still believing. It’s a huge challenge for the party going forward. As Mitch McConnell recently said, I believe he called President Trump a horse that is out to pasture and should stay there or a thoroughbred that should stay there,” McCain stated.
McCain then went on to say she believes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis could defeat Trump in a 2024 GOP Presidential Primary.
“If you look at polling against people like Governor Ron DeSantis, President Trump doesn’t have the stranglehold on the party that he once did. I think it’s college-educated women,” McCain added.
But polls show McCain isn’t right.
Donald Trump remains the favorite among Republican voters for the 2024 nomination.
Of course, Never-Trumpers like McCain and other media talking heads have refused to acknowledge the reality of Trump’s support with Republican voters since he first announced his run for President back in 2015.
And McCain’s comments show that they’re still trying to wish Donald Trump away and downplay his support from rank-and-file GOP voters.
