Democrats were furious.
They thought Joe Biden’s socialist spending scheme was a done deal.
But Jen Psaki made a huge mistake that will come back to haunt Democrats down the road.
During an interview with Fox News, West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin announced his opposition to Joe Biden’s $5 trillion socialist spending scheme.
“If I can’t go home and explain to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it,” Manchin told host Brett Baier. “And I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t. I’ve tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there. This is a no on this piece of legislation. I have tried everything I know to do.”
Since Democrats could not afford to lose one vote, Manchin’s announcement of his intention to vote “no” effectively killed this version of Joe Biden’s socialist spending agenda.
After Manchin’s announcement, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki released a statement attacking him for allegedly going back on his word to support Biden’s socialist spending scheme, calling him a liar and accusing him of acting in bad faith.
“Senator Manchin’s comments this morning on FOX are at odds with his discussions this week with the President, with White House staff, and with his own public utterances. Weeks ago, Senator Manchin committed to the President, at his home in Wilmington, to support the Build Back Better framework that the President then subsequently announced. Senator Manchin pledged repeatedly to negotiate on finalizing that framework ‘in good faith,’” Psaki wrote.
Of course, the Democrats may eventually regret immediately reacting in anger to Joe Manchin announcing his opposition to this version of Biden’s spending scheme.
Since Manchin only announced he was opposed to the nearly $5 trillion version of this socialist spending bill, the Democrats could still win his vote on a smaller spending bill.
However, Manchin may oppose any bill after the White House publicly attacked him as a liar.
