Taylor Swift could determine the next President of the United States with this one simple act.
While most NFL fans have grown tired of seeing Taylor Swift plastered all over their television screens week after week, Swift still has one of the most loyal fan bases of any celebrity.
And while she may fancy herself a country music singer, Swift’s politics align more with leftist Hollywood elites.
And now a new poll shows Swift and her “Swifties” could decide who is the next President of the United States.
Following Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, singer/songwriter Taylor Swift cried in regret over not doing enough to stop Trump from being elected.
That’s when possibly the most popular celebrity in the world got political.
She started helping Tennessee Democrats – including actively campaigning against GOP Senator Marsha Blackburn — pushing voter registration drives and, of course, endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden in 2020.
This election cycle, The New York Times is reporting the Biden campaign is pressing Swift for an endorsement in the likely rematch against Trump this November.
The Times even mentioned the possibility of the sitting President of the United States showing up at Swift tour stops.
And while Swift’s involvement in politics may induce eyerolls for many – especially those on the Right – a new survey is out showing Trump and his fellow Republicans better take the singer’s political activism seriously.
Rolling Stones recently reported that the Trump team is keeping a close eye on camp Swift – and for good reason.
Redfield & Wilton Strategies recently conducted a poll gauging the power of Swift’s political opinions.
The results are startling, but not shocking in the celebrity-obsessed modern era.
According to the survey results, nearly one out of every five voters, 18%, say they would adjust their vote to align with a Swift endorsement.
“It is informative when people talk about voters because it shows you how little voters know about the issues, particularly young voters,” Towson University professor emeritus Dr. Richard Vatz said of the poll results. “Bottom line is, I think a Taylor Swift endorsement could have an effect in a close election, but it shouldn’t have an effect.”
While Republicans and Trump in particular have been making inroads with a traditional Democrat voting bloc – the youth vote – Swift’s endorsement would have the most impact on young voters.
The survey found about 30% of respondents under the age of 35 said they would cast their ballot for a Swift-endorsed candidate.
A potential Biden endorsement from Swift won’t automatically sink Trump’s third bid for the White House.
There is a silver lining for Republicans in the survey.
While 18% of Americans say they’ll back whoever Swift tells them too, almost as many, 17%, say a Swift endorsement would drive them away from the candidate in question.
Be it with or against Swift, Dr. Vatz believes a celebrity’s opinion is a silly reason to cast a ballot.
But silly or not, he believes Swift and her fans, the “Swifties,” could determine who will fill the Oval Office come 2025.
“You can imagine if people have a conversation, and somebody says, ‘I’m going to vote for whom Taylor Swift supports.’ The people with whom that is an effective argument – you’re talking about people who the pollsters used to call ‘know-nothings,” Vatz said. “She could have a very small effect, and in a close election, in a close state, it could make a difference.”
