An industry trade group sounded the alarm—and what they know will shock you.
If you thought the toilet paper wars were ugly last year, just wait until you see what happens after Joe Biden pushes this group of American workers too far.
Now, Joe Biden is about to completely wreck the supply chain with this one move just in time for Christmas.
It’s no secret United States supply chains are still a complete mess following the upheaval ushered into our lives with the COVID-19 crisis and all the accompanying restrictions government officials could dream up.
But the straw that will break the camel’s back is about ready to come off Biden’s desk.
The American Trucking Association (ATA) sent a letter to Biden warning him that a survey shows 37% of truckers are ready to quit their jobs over the COVID-19 vaccination mandate.
“While much of the country was sequestered in their homes, the trucking industry served its essential function and did so successfully with safety standards developed by public health experts,” Transportation Topics News quoted from the letter signed by ATA President Chris Spear. “Now placing vaccination mandates on employers, which in turn force employees to be vaccinated, will create a workforce crisis for our industry and the communities, families and businesses we serve.”
In addition to the 37% who will quit their current jobs, the trade organization reports that their data shows 13% of truckers say they’ll leave the industry entirely if the mandate is pushed through.
In an economy that is almost entirely transportation dependent, that possibility absolutely spells disaster.
Grocery store shelves were already bare last year when school children shifted from eating lunch in a cafeteria to eating every meal at home.
But American truckers saved the day by keeping up a typically grueling driving routine no matter what.
However, this isn’t a group you want to be taking for granted.
A driver shortage has been the most pressing issue in the trucking industry for the past five years according to the American Transportation Research Institute.
Even if retailers increase the cost of goods (more) so they can make trucking more lucrative, it’s going to take time to recruit and train a new workforce.
Time is exactly what we don’t have.
In a country where your bag of groceries travels about 1,500 miles before it reaches your table— and where grocery stores stock about three days’ worth of food — few things are more important than making sure trucks keep rolling.
We can only hope Joe Biden will realize his health mandate is the biggest real danger Americans face.
And also that he remembers.
Or maybe we should just hope he forgets about the mandate before it’s actually finalized and signed into law.
