With Joe Biden in the White House and Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi calling the shots in Congress, the Supreme Court is the only branch of government where conservatives still hold power.
But that may not last too long.
Because Joe Biden just created a new commission that could force Clarence Thomas off the Supreme Court.
For the past several months, Joe Biden has refused to reveal whether or not he supports calls to “pack” the Supreme Court with as many as six new justices.
But he just created a new commission to study reforms on the Supreme Court.
And according to many journalists, like The Daily Caller’s Ellie Gardy, believe that Biden’s new commission amounts to pure blackmail.
Gardy wrote:
President Joe Biden has issued a thinly veiled threat to Chief Justice John Roberts in the form of a new commission that will study Supreme Court reform. The threat is clear: if Roberts doesn’t limit the court’s conservative influence on key issues like abortion, gun rights and immigration, Democrats will pack the court.
In short, Gardy is saying that Biden is likely to hold recommendations to reform the Supreme Court over John Roberts’ head as a way of strong arming conservative justices to rule in favor of the Biden Administration.
After all, this is the same type of strong-arm tactics the Obama Administration used in 2012 to pressure John Roberts into changing his vote from striking down the Obamacare individual mandate to upholding the law.
Of course, Biden’s commission could come up with other recommendations designed to alter the composition of the Supreme Court, like asking Congress to pass term limits for justices.
Right now, Clarence Thomas, who is the most conservative justice, is also currently the longest serving justice on the Supreme Court, meaning he would be the first judge forced into retirement if Congress passed term limits on justices.
