Now that Joe Biden is the last man standing for the Democrat nomination, his next big decision is to pick a running mate.
But the coronavirus is leading many politicians to take politically unpopular actions.
And Joe Biden watched in horror as his top pick for VP just made the biggest mistake of her life.
Democrats were looking to lockdown Michigan’s electoral votes by having Biden choose the swing state Governor Gretchen Whitmer as his Vice President.
Democrat Governors are using the coronavirus crisis to “audition” for the role through their responses to the pandemic.
At first, Whitmer’s approval rating shot up after her initial handling of the outbreak.
But after deciding to lockdown the state with authoritarian measures like preventing stores from selling seeds and other items deemed “non-essential” and banning residents from traveling to their own property, Michiganders are souring on the Governor.
Now residents are suing Whitmer over her ham-fisted orders shutting down businesses and banning travel to their own homes as a violation of their First and Fifth Amendment rights to freely associate and deprive them of their property without just compensation.
Attorney David Helm told Fox 2 in Detroit, “Our position is, ordering businesses to shut down, preventing residents and citizens from accessing their second homes, within the state is essentially a taking and they need to be compensated for it.
“We are not arguing for political dissidence or any sort of protest. What we are saying, is that people have the right to associate with their friends and family. And that is being unjustly infringed.”
Protests in Michigan – and around the country, including the swing state of Pennsylvania – will only increase as Americans grow impatient with the government-mandated shutdowns.
The end result could dramatically change the political landscape for Whitmer and other Democrat Governors who believe the lockdowns must continue for months to come.
