Jon Stewart popularized the commingling of political news and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
Since Stewart left the show in 2015, the left-wing political snark has become the standard for countless late night comedy shows.
Stewart returned with a new show on Apple+, but the tech giant pulled the plug.
The New York Times reported that “Stewart and Apple executives had disagreements over some of the topics and guests on ‘The Problem’…Mr. Stewart told members of his staff on Thursday that potential show topics related to China and artificial intelligence were causing concern among Apple executives, a person with knowledge of the meeting said. As the 2024 presidential campaign begins to heat up, there was potential for further creative disagreements, one of the people said.”
When Stewart was pushing gun control and radical gender ideology, he was safe.
But criticizing China, AI, or Democrat politicians was apparently verboten.
Stewart should not have been surprised that criticism of the CCP would not go over well at Apple.
Investigative reporter Peter Schweizer explained in an interview with Fox News host Mark Levin, “President Xi comes to the United States to meet Barack Obama, but instead of seeing the president first, he stops in Seattle and has a powwow with the biggest tech executives in the United States. All the big names are there: Tim Cook from Apple, it’s being held at Bill Gates’s house, and they’re starstruck. In fact, when President Xi enters the room, Tim Cook turns to his colleagues and says, ‘Did you feel the earth move?’”
The cancellation of Stewart’s show should be proof positive that all of the leftist talk about speaking truth to power is bogus.
They are free to speak the truth so long as they toe the Democrat Party line.
Stewart ruffled feathers on the Left when he appeared on Stephen Colbert’s late night show and endorsed the COVID lab leak theory.
Stewart said to a clearly uncomfortable Colbert, “Oh, my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China. What do we do? Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab. That’s just a little too weird!”
Up to that point, talking about the lab leak was dangerous territory.
Stewart finally found the line he could not cross.
