Joni Ernst just caught 149,000 federal employees red-handed in this infuriating scandal

Senator Joni Ernst reveals 149,000 federal employees owe $1.5 billion in unpaid taxes while introducing legislation to hold government workers accountable.

Thousands of federal workers are getting away with something everyday Americans can’t.

These same bureaucrats are the ones enforcing the rules against you.

And Joni Ernst left bureaucrats speechless when she exposed their shocking tax secret.

Government workers owe a staggering $1.5 billion in unpaid taxes

As Americans scramble to file their taxes before the April 15 deadline, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) dropped a bombshell that’s sending shockwaves through Washington.

The Iowa Republican introduced legislation that would crack down on federal employees who aren’t paying their fair share – and the numbers are absolutely staggering.

“It is outrageous that while hardworking Americans fork over their money to Uncle Sam, nearly 150,000 bureaucrats refuse to pay their own taxes,” Ernst told Fox News Digital.

A 2023 IRS report revealed an eye-popping $1.5 billion in unpaid tax liabilities from federal employees for fiscal year 2021 alone.

Even more shocking – over 2,000 IRS employees themselves had past-due tax balances totaling more than $12 million as of the end of last year.

Ernst introduces the “Tax DODGER Act” to end Washington’s double standard

Senator Ernst isn’t just highlighting the problem – she’s taking concrete action with her new Tax Delinquencies and Overdue Debts are Government Employees’ Responsibility (Tax DODGER) Act.

The legislation would force transparency by requiring the IRS to publish an annual report detailing tax delinquencies of current and retired federal employees, including those who failed to file tax returns.

“I am ending the ‘rules for thee, but not for me’ mentality in Washington,” Ernst declared firmly.

Her bill goes beyond just exposing the problem. It would make tax delinquents ineligible for federal employment unless they’ve been granted a hardship exemption.

“If you don’t pay taxes, you should not work for the federal government,” Ernst stated bluntly.

The legislation would also empower agency leaders to take personnel actions – including termination – against employees who have understated their tax liability or failed to file returns.

Ernst has been leading the charge against government corruption

This isn’t Ernst’s first battle against bureaucratic overreach and corruption.

The Senate DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) leader has been working with Elon Musk to audit the IRS and bring accountability to Washington.

In March, Ernst sent a scathing letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, noting that Americans and lawmakers had “lost confidence in the IRS.”

She specifically referenced past political weaponization of the agency under the Obama administration, when Lois Lerner allegedly targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

The Tax DODGER Act would require that reports on tax-dodging bureaucrats be sent annually to the Office of Personnel Management, the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, and the House Oversight Committee.

Federal workers enjoy privileges average Americans don’t

The revelations highlight the growing divide between Washington insiders and the American people.

While the IRS aggressively pursues average citizens for relatively minor tax issues, their own employees and fellow federal workers seem to operate under a different set of rules.

Federal workers already enjoy generous benefits packages, job security, and retirement plans far better than most Americans in the private sector.

Now we learn that many aren’t even paying their taxes – the very thing that funds their salaries and benefits.

The average American family pays thousands in federal taxes each year. Imagine what would happen if they simply decided not to pay like these 149,000 federal employees.

The IRS would come after them with penalties, interest, liens, and potentially even criminal charges.

But when government workers do the same thing? Apparently nothing happens – until now.

Ernst’s legislation would finally bring consequences to bureaucrats who think they’re above the law that applies to everyday Americans.
