Kamala Harris expected the entire Left to rally around her campaign.
But it seems many of her fellow Democrats have jumped ship.
And Kamala Harris is red with rage after losing another key endorsement.
Harris can’t secure endorsements
Kamala Harris keeps losing endorsements that Democrats can normally take for granted.
She lost big when two major unions, The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the International Association of Firefighters declined to endorse her.
Both unions endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.
The loss of the union endorsements is a major sting, as those endorsements tend to come with lots of campaign cash and paid campaign “volunteers” attached.
Outgoing moderate Democrat-turned Independent Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona both declined to endorse her after she came out in favor of gutting the Senate filibuster to ram through legislation to codify Roe v Wade.
Another Democrat Senator, Jon Tester of Montana, declined to endorse Harris as he seeks to distance himself from her policies while facing a tough reelection battle.
Now, she is even losing endorsements from a stalwart Democrat backer in the media.
Washington Post won’t endorse this year
The Washington Post has long been a leftist rag, and Harris thought she could easily rely on an endorsement from them.
According to an opinion piece written by Will Lewis, the Post is “returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates.”
The last time the Post declined to make a Presidential endorsement was 1988.
According to a report from NPR, the decision caused some tension within the outlet.
Editor David Shipley had earlier approved a Harris endorsement for the paper to run.
But Shipley later changed his mind.
It is unclear whether or not the paper’s owner Jeff Bezos influenced Shipley’s decision.
According to NPR, which cited anonymous sources within the Post, most of the paper’s editorial staff were “shocked” by the decision.
Former Washington Post Executive Editor Martin Baron was infuriated by the decision.
“This is cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty,” Baron told NPR. “Donald Trump will celebrate this as an invitation to further intimidate The Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos (and other media owners). History will mark a disturbing chapter of spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.”
The Los Angeles Times made a similar decision to withhold an endorsement this year, which led to the resignation of the paper’s editorial editor and two editorial board members.
Clearly, many that work for these media outlets find the notion of their papers’ deciding to stay neutral infuriating.
The Washington Post is currently owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, who also owns Amazon.
The decision not to endorse could have been a pragmatic business decision on Bezos’ part.
His fellow billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg, who runs Facebook, recently announced he would stop supporting several leftist causes.
Both Bezos and Zuckerberg may have seen the writing on the wall that Trump returning to the White House is a real possibility, and so they are hedging their bets.
Meanwhile, leftists are panicking that some of the major media outlets are refusing to back Kamala Harris.
