Far from America’s top choice
Kamala Harris just took part in an interview and said she was ready to fulfill her constitutional duty to assume the presidency if Joe Biden is no longer able to lead.
Questions continue to rise about Biden’s health, mental cognition, and age as he gets ready to turn 81 in November.
Joe Biden is now the oldest serving president in American history and if he wins again in 2024, he’ll be 82 years old before he is sworn in for a second term.
In the interview with the Associated Press in Jakarta, India, Harris, said, “Joe Biden is going to be fine, so that is not going to come to fruition. But let us also understand that every vice president — every vice president — understands that when they take the oath, they must be very clear about the responsibility they may have to take over the job of being president” before adding, “I’m no different.”
Harris proceeded to dismiss the worries over Joe Biden’s age, although many people including those in his own party think he is too old for office.
A recent poll conducted by AP/NORC found that 77% of Americans and 69% of Democrats think that Biden is too old to serve another term.
Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has repeatedly argued that a vote for Biden would really be a vote for Harris.
But according to the VP, “I see him every day. A substantial amount of time we spend together is in the Oval Office, where I see how his ability to understand issues and weave through complex issues in a way that no one else can to make smart and important decisions on behalf of the American people have played out.”
Harris continued, “And so I will say to you that I think the American people ultimately want to know that their president delivers. And Joe Biden delivers.”
Harris is willing to “take over” but who wants that?
When Harris ran for president in 2020, she quickly fell out of favor after the Democratic primary debates and dropped out of the race in December 2019.
She received fewer pledged delegates than many of her other fellow candidates including Michael Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, and Amy Klobuchar.
Harris also discussed her former work as a prosecutor in arguing that Donald Trump should be held accountable for the protests on January 6 during the interview.
“Let the evidence, the facts, take it where it may. I spent the majority of my career as a prosecutor. I believe that people should be held accountable under the law. And when they break the law, there should be accountability,” she said during the interview.
In the meantime, it’s clear that Kamala Harris knows exactly what she’ll be doing if (or when) Joe Biden can no longer be the President of the United States.
