Activist judges are waging an all-out war against Donald Trump’s America First agenda.
But they picked the wrong fight this time.
And Karoline Leavitt delivered one brutal takedown that left activist judges scrambling for cover.
Three rogue judges try to block Trump’s tariff agenda
President Donald Trump ran on a promise to bring American manufacturing back home and end the decades of terrible trade deals that shipped jobs overseas.
On Liberation Day, Trump delivered on that promise by imposing universal tariffs and reciprocal tariffs to protect American workers and national security.
The move was long overdue after the United States ran a record $1.2 trillion trade deficit in goods in 2024 alone.
America has been hemorrhaging money with trade deficits every single year since 1975 while foreign competitors have been eating our lunch.
But three activist judges on the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York decided they knew better than the President and the 75 million Americans who voted for him.
The judicial activists ruled that President Trump exceeded his authority in imposing tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977.
These unelected judges think they can override the will of the American people and stop Trump from fixing the economic mess created by decades of failed leadership.
Leavitt unleashes on judicial coup attempt
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wasn’t having any of it during Thursday’s press briefing.
She delivered a scorching response that exposed these judges for exactly what they are – political activists in robes trying to stage a judicial coup.
“Three judges of the U.S. Court of International Trade disagreed and brazenly abused their judicial power to usurp the authority of President Trump to stop him from carrying out the mandate that the American people gave him,” Leavitt declared.
She didn’t stop there.
Leavitt pointed out that Congress already had the chance to reject Trump’s tariffs and chose not to do so.
“Following Liberation Day, Congress firmly rejected an effort led by Senator Rand Paul and Democrats to terminate the President’s reciprocal tariffs,” she explained.
The Press Secretary made it crystal clear that these judges are way out of line and threatening the very foundation of American democracy.
“The courts should have no roles here,” Leavitt stated. “There is a troubling and dangerous trend of unelected judges inserting themselves into the presidential decision-making process.”
The bigger picture of judicial activism
This isn’t just about tariffs – it’s about whether America will be governed by elected officials or by activist judges who think they run the country.
Leavitt hammered home this crucial point during her remarks.
“America cannot function if President Trump or any other president, for that matter, has their sensitive, diplomatic, or trade negotiations railroaded by activist judges,” she said.
The Press Secretary warned that these rogue judges are doing serious damage to America’s credibility around the world.
“These judges are threatening to undermine the credibility of the United States on the world stage,” Leavitt explained.
Trump is in the middle of rebalancing America’s trading relationships with the entire world and bringing tens of billions of dollars in tariff revenues back to our country.
But these judicial activists want to sabotage those efforts and keep America getting ripped off by foreign competitors.
Trump administration fights back
The Trump administration isn’t taking this judicial overreach lying down.
They immediately filed an emergency motion for a stay pending appeal and an administrative stay to strike down what Leavitt called this “egregious decision.”
But Leavitt made it clear that this fight goes all the way to the top.
“The Supreme Court must put an end to this for the sake of our Constitution and our country,” she declared.
The President has the constitutional authority to protect America’s national security and economic interests.
Congress gave the President this power through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act specifically so he could respond to threats to our economy.
These activist judges are trying to strip away powers that belong to the executive branch and insert themselves into areas where they have no business.
The American people didn’t elect these judges to make trade policy – they elected Donald Trump to fix the mess and bring jobs back home.
This judicial coup attempt shows exactly why Trump’s promise to drain the swamp is so important.
These unelected bureaucrats in robes think they can override the will of the people and stop the President from delivering on his promises.
But Karoline Leavitt just served notice that this administration won’t be intimidated by activist judges who want to usurp presidential authority.
The fight for America’s economic future is just getting started.
