Even the 2024 Republican Presidential field is shaping up to look like some sort of showdown.
Donald Trump has all kinds of competition shaping up.
And Kayleigh McEnany’s claim about Ron DeSantis left Donald Trump with his mouth hanging open.
Former South Carolina Governor—and Donald Trump’s appointee to the UN—Nikki Haley is the first official Republican candidate gearing up to go to battle with Donald Trump for a shot at the White House in 2024.
The political move came up when Trump’s former Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany made an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered.
McEnany pointed out that Haley was smart to jump in the race now since she has the field to herself as Trump’s only challenger.
Despite the fact that early contenders often end up becoming irrelevant long before critical primaries, McEnany claims the free media attention will give Haley the boost she needs to become a household name.
“I think it was very smart of her to declare right now,” McEnany said. “Because being the only person in the race against President Trump at this moment, she got a lot of media attention. We’ll be talking about this now and for days to come.”
Haley needs all the free attention she can get since she’s likely to struggle when it comes to raising enough cash for a serious campaign.
As a RINO who opposed the border wall, defended Barack Obama against Donald Trump, and supported the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020, Haley certainly hasn’t set herself up for success and likely cannot count on much support from the grassroots.
McEnany also pointed out that Haley is likely to struggle attracting donors since she’s been in politics long enough for the honeymoon stage to wear off.
Back in 2010 Haley won her first term as Governor in South Carolina as an anti-establishment outsider.
Since then she’s alienated herself from conservatives by proving she’s really a woke establishment RINO.
But what McEnany brought up next caught political watchers completely off guard.
Most people thought McEnany was a Trump loyalist, but she just betrayed her former boss by calling on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to jump into the race.
“She was the hottest name in Republican politics in 2011 to like 2015, I would say,” McEnany added. “This is the case — what you’re watching right now, polling at 3 percent — for Governor Ron DeSantis to get in right now. People say, will he get in? Will he wait? How can you wait when you are currently the hottest Governor in Republican politics, seeing how hard it is to regenerate that attention almost a decade later?”
Years ago Nikki Haley was in one of the most enviable positions in American politics.
But McEnany says Florida Governor Ron DeSantis now occupies that space as the serious conservative challenger to take on the elites in the Washington, D.C. Swamp as the top Republican who has led the fight against Dr. Fauci and the woke agenda over the past few years.
