Democrats are still fixated on Donald Trump’s social media posts instead of focusing on policy issues.
One top political analyst just called them out for this baffling strategy.
And Mark Halperin exposed Democrats’ shocking obsession with Trump’s social media that left strategists stunned.
Democrats can’t stop obsessing over Trump’s social media
During Tuesday’s episode of “Morning Meeting,” host Mark Halperin revealed that Democrats continue to believe Trump’s social media posts and personal style will somehow lead to his political downfall – a strategy that has repeatedly failed for nearly a decade.
“According to the emails and texts I get from my Democratic sources, the Trump administration’s over,” Halperin said. “They say it’s just a bankrupt, corrupt mess, and he’s already a failed president, and he’s not getting anything done.”
Halperin noted that Democrats are particularly focused on Trump wearing a MAGA hat during a West Point graduation speech and his Memorial Day post on Truth Social.
“They’re back to an Adam Schiff-ian/Heather Cox Richardson point of view, which is: everything Trump does is an epic disaster and the American people will turn on him and Republicans in the midterms because he’s impolite,” Halperin explained.
This obsession with Trump’s style over substance left even Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine shaking his head.
Democrat strategist admits party’s weak position
Turrentine didn’t mince words about his party’s misguided focus and lack of a compelling alternative.
“Look, that’s crazy,” Turrentine said of Democrats’ claims that Trump is already a failed president. “He is not an abject failure. In fact, I would say right now that if the tariffs turn the economy around, [Democrats] have abjectly nothing to run on.”
Turrentine acknowledged that Democrats have little to show voters: “The only thing we have going for us are his stumbles right now—not anything that we’ve done.”
The Democratic strategist argued that focusing on Trump’s social media posts and communication style is pointless because “it’s been consistent for ten years” and “it’s been litigated ad nauseam.”
Instead, Turrentine suggested Democrats should focus on policy: “The focus should be on action: what did he propose, does it help or hurt the real lives of real people? And then what would we do in lieu of that? Or if we had power, how would we make your life better?”
Trump’s authenticity continues to baffle the left
Former Trump spokesman Sean Spicer pointed out that Trump’s communication style shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point.
“I could get it if this was the first time that he expressed himself that way on a national holiday. But this is literally like: Happy Halloween, I hope everyone gets a lot of candy except the losers. That’s who he is,” Spicer said.
“And to your point, I don’t know why suddenly people are going—like, are they blind? Did they not see this?” Spicer continued.
Spicer criticized the selective outrage from Trump’s critics: “Just give me a break with all your sanctimony. So many of these folks have very selective outrage.”
He also suggested Trump knows exactly what he’s doing: “Donald Trump is who he is. Dan says all the time—and I think he’s right—he’s an amazing political athlete. He has overcome all of these things. And anytime something new happens, it’s almost like he’s trying to trigger them.”
Democrats repeating the same failed playbook
Halperin expressed astonishment that nearly a decade after Trump said John McCain wasn’t a hero because he got shot down, Democrats still believe Trump’s communication style will determine his political fate.
“I just cannot believe that—nine years after he said John McCain wasn’t a hero because he got shot down, and all the things he said in 2015 and 2016, we’re still having this conversation about whether his political fate will be tied to how rude he is on social media. I just—I can’t believe it, really,” Halperin said.
He concluded with advice for Democrats: “I’m not approving of the Truth Social post. I just think if you’re a Democrat and you’re trying to win politically, talking about these Truth Social posts, if anything’s ever been priced into the stock of anything, it is this, I think.”
The discussion reveals that even as President Trump works to implement his agenda, Democrats continue focusing on his social media activity rather than developing substantive policy alternatives that might appeal to voters in upcoming elections.
