Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are always up for some drama.
But recently the royal couple landed themselves in a fresh pile of trouble.
Then Megyn Kelly threw a bucket of reality on Megan Markle—and the celebrity turned actress couldn’t be more humiliated.
Prince Harry and Markle—in the UK now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—splashed back into the headlines recently in their signature reckless style.
CNN’s John Berman reported that a spokesman came out with claims the Royal pair “were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” ripping through Manhattan.
According to Berman’s report the spokesman claimed the “relentless pursuit lasting over two hours,” and ultimately “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.”
Of course, that description immediately brings to mind Harry’s mother Princess Dianna’s harrowing death in a car crash back in 1997 as the paparazzi tore after her through a Paris tunnel.
Many people quickly picked up on the Jussie Smollett vibe emanating from a pair of attention-hungry celebrities.
Megyn Kelly quickly recognized that something was off with the couple’s story.
“Near-catastrophic. What does that mean? I mean, near-catastrophic is what we all have. Every time we look down to change the radio while we’re driving our cars or engage in the stupidity of checking a text or our phones while we’re driving, that’s near-catastrophic. It is. Anything could happen with anybody on the road around your car,” Kelly ranted.
She then added that due to the traffic, number of stop signs and red lights, as pedestrian-crowded city streets, a high-speed chase in Manhattan is impossible.
Kelly concluded that the two celebrity royals seem to have something against the freedom of the press in America—and added that they are free to leave the country.
“Well, sorry, you two. But you’re in America now and in America, the press has the right to photograph you when you are in a public place or on the streets or leaving a place like the Ziegfeld Theater. That’s the way it works here. And it’s not pleasant. I’ve been followed as well, but it’s part of life in this country where we still have freedom of the press. You don’t like it? Go back home for the love of God, please go back home. Harry, take your wife with you. I don’t know how we got saddled with you to begin with,” Kelly declared.
The New York City Police Department’s reports on the incident only served to back up Kelly’s argument.
Instead of a harrowing scene straight out of an action movie—their version of events lined up with what you’d expect when a VIP vehicle is being escorted by both private security and the NYPD.
They quickly nixed the idea there was a near fatal car chase with multiple police officers suffering injuries in the fray.
“On [Tuesday] evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a NYPD spokesman explained. “There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
It seems that Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood-level drama would provide good fodder for a screenplay but it hasn’t quite fit into the reality of the real world.
