Democrats have been playing a dangerous game with America's elections.
They've fought tooth and nail for decades.
And now Mike Lee and Elon Musk just exposed the one thing Democrats are terrified voters will demand Congress do before it’s too late.
All-In on Election Integrity
House Republicans are pushing what they're calling SAVE Act Plus — a turbocharged version of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act that would finally require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.
The bill would mandate Americans show documentary proof like a passport or birth certificate when registering to vote.
SAVE Act Plus adds photo ID requirements for both registration and voting.
"What we're looking at doing is passing an even better bill over to the Senate to give them even more incentive to go protect the sanctity of every American's vote," Scalise told Fox News on Sunday.
He pointed out the obvious hypocrisy that drives Democrats crazy.
"Look, you can't even get on an airplane. You can't go to a bar tonight without showing a picture ID," House Majority Leader Steve Scalise told Fox News. "Yet, there are people in many states where the states actually have laws saying you can't show ID, which is a recipe for fraud, for stealing your vote if you're voting legally."
The House passed the original SAVE Act in July 2024 by a 221-198 vote.
Senate Democrats refused to even bring it up for a vote.
Republicans brought it back as H.R. 22 in January 2025 and the House passed it again 220-208 in April — but they couldn't get past the Democrat filibuster in the Senate.
Senator Mike Lee posted on X that 84% of Americans support voter ID requirements.
"We must pass the SAVE Act," Lee wrote. "There are no good arguments against it."
Elon Musk has been sounding the alarm about election security for months.
"No ID and mailing in ballots make fraud trivial," Musk posted on X.
The House Freedom Caucus wrote to Speaker Mike Johnson in January demanding he make the SAVE Act his top priority.
Democrats' Favorite Excuse Just Got Destroyed
Democrats and their allies at left-wing advocacy groups have one talking point they repeat endlessly.
Noncitizen voting doesn't happen, they claim, so requiring proof of citizenship would "disenfranchise" millions of Americans.
But here's what they're not telling you.
Just because authorities rarely catch and prosecute noncitizen voting doesn't mean it's not happening.
Think about it.
How would anyone even know if illegal immigrants are voting when states like California and New York actively prevent election officials from verifying citizenship?
The Heritage Foundation documented 24 proven cases of noncitizen voting between 2003 and 2023.
That's 24 cases where someone actually got caught and prosecuted.
Michigan found 15 noncitizens who voted in 2024 — but only after conducting a special audit using Department of Homeland Security data.
If Michigan hadn't done that audit, those 15 illegal votes would have been counted with nobody the wiser.
How many other states aren't even looking?
Even worse, the left-wing groups screaming about "voter suppression" keep citing the Brennan Center, which found 30 "suspected" noncitizen votes out of 23.5 million cast in 2016.
Suspected.
That means they didn't actually investigate most of these cases.
They just assumed everything was fine.
One North Carolina report found 41 noncitizens voted in 2016 out of 4.8 million ballots — but only three cases were ever prosecuted.
So they took just a cursory look that uncovered 38 people voted illegally and faced zero consequences.
Oregon admitted in 2024 that 1,561 noncitizens were mistakenly added to voter rolls through the state's automatic registration system.
Officials confirmed at least 10 had voted — and that's only what they caught after conducting a special audit.
You can guess what “special” means when it comes to exactly how thoroughly they really looked.
Still, the cases officials have admitted to shows that suspicious voting irregularities aren't isolated computer glitches.
This is a system designed to make fraud easy and detection nearly impossible.
What Democrats Don't Want You to Know About the SAVE Act
The Brennan Center — funded by George Soros and other radical leftist billionaires — claims 21 million Americans lack the documents required by the SAVE Act.
Let that sink in.
Twenty-one million people supposedly can't produce a birth certificate, passport, or driver's license.
Either that number is a complete lie, or it proves the voter registration system is catastrophically broken.
If 21 million Americans can't prove citizenship, how many of the people currently registered to vote are actually illegal immigrants?
Democrats never answer that question.
They just scream about rural voters having to travel to show documents in person.
But you know what requires showing ID in person?
Getting on a plane.
Buying alcohol.
Picking up prescription medication.
Opening a bank account.
Renting a car.
Getting a marriage license.
Democrats claim requiring ID to vote is racist voter suppression.
But requiring ID for literally everything else in modern life is perfectly fine.
The argument doesn't hold water and they know it.
The Real Reason Democrats Oppose Voter ID
Here's what this comes down to.
Democrats have flooded America with millions of illegal immigrants under Biden's open border policies.
Now they're fighting desperately to prevent any verification that voters are actually American citizens.
You don't need to be a genius to connect those dots.
If noncitizen voting is really as rare as Democrats claim, they should have zero problem with verification requirements.
After all, it would only catch a handful of people, right?
But Democrats won't even allow the question to be asked.
California, New York, Illinois, and other blue states have passed laws making it illegal for election officials to verify citizenship.
Some jurisdictions even allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.
Washington D.C., parts of California, Maryland, and Vermont let illegal immigrants vote for school boards and city councils.
Once you're registered to vote in those local elections, what's stopping someone from also voting in federal races?
The honor system?
Democrats created a system where millions of people can register to vote by simply checking a box saying they're citizens — with zero verification.
Then they fight like hell against anyone trying to add safeguards.
The conclusion writes itself.
Light A Grassroots Fire Under Senators
The SAVE Act has one major obstacle.
Senate Republicans need 60 votes to overcome the Democrat filibuster but only control 53 seats.
The good news is more than enough Senators who need to see light are up for reelection this year.
So if voters in their states make it clear they demand action, you can be sure they’ll start worrying how voting wrong will affect their reelection chances.
And the dirty little secret they don’t want you to know is that the number of voters contacting them that makes them nervous is far lower than most people think – we’re talking single digit percentages of registered voters.
That’s tens of thousands of votes in most cases.
Which may sound like a lot but not when you consider 5–10 million Americans pick up the phone and cast votes for a single episode of American idol.
The lesson is clear. Contact your politicians and tell them what you expect.
They won’t do it to protect American elections from foreign interference – but even Democrat Senators will if they know failing to do so is guaranteed to cost them their jobs.
