During his four years in the White House, Mike Pence seemed to mostly get along with Donald Trump.
Pence remained loyal to Trump as Vice President.
But Mike Pence just made it clear that he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Donald Trump on this one major issue.
The Ronald Reagan Library hosts a series of speakers during its “Time for Choosing” lecture series.
Mike Pence was one of the speakers chosen to deliver remarks recently.
Pence began his remarks by praising Donald Trump’s accomplishments.
However, Pence didn’t stop at praising Trump’s accomplishments such as building a border wall, cracking down on Communist China, and putting America first.
He also put to rest where he stands on the challenges to the 2020 election.
Pence made it clear he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Donald Trump.
“I understand the disappointment many feel about the last election,” Pence stated. “I can even relate. Remember, I lost reelection too. But there’s more at stake than our Party or our political fortunes.”
According to Pence, the very idea of one person, like the Vice President, being able to reject the results of the electoral college, is “un-American.”
“Truth is, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president,” Pence stated.
And Pence argues that the Constitution did not give him the power to reject the votes even if he would have wanted to.
“If we lose faith in the Constitution, we won’t just lose elections — we’ll lose our country,” Pence added.
“Now more than ever, America needs the Republican Party to be the party of the Constitution,” Pence continued.
Of course, Donald Trump and many of his supporters disagree with Pence and believe he had the authority to reject the results if he would have only had the backbone to do so.
This lack of backbone may explain why when Trump lists future leaders of the Republican Party, Mike Pence is not among them, which many argue is because of his disagreement with Trump over the 2020 elections.
